Which companies and organizations sponsor visas for program assistants in Oklahoma?
Universities are the most consistent sponsors, particularly the University of Oklahoma in Norman and Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, both of which regularly hire program assistants in research, student services, and grant-funded programs. Large nonprofit health systems like INTEGRIS Health and OU Health also hire program assistants. Tribal nation governments and federally funded community organizations in the state have sponsored international candidates as well.
Which visa types are most common for program assistant roles in Oklahoma?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa for program assistant positions that require a bachelor's degree in a specific field, such as public health, social work, or education administration. University employers frequently use J-1 visas for program roles tied to research or exchange programs. Some positions at universities may also qualify for cap-exempt H-1B petitions, meaning the employer can file outside the annual lottery window.
How to find program assistant visa sponsorship jobs in Oklahoma?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find program assistant roles in Oklahoma where employers are open to visa sponsorship. You can filter specifically for this role and state to see active listings from universities, nonprofits, and government-affiliated organizations. Migrate Mate focuses exclusively on sponsorship-friendly employers, which saves time compared to sifting through postings from organizations that don't sponsor.
Which cities in Oklahoma have the most program assistant sponsorship jobs?
Oklahoma City and Tulsa account for the majority of program assistant sponsorship opportunities in the state. Oklahoma City hosts the state government complex, major health systems, and OU Health's administrative operations. Tulsa has a strong nonprofit sector and several university satellite campuses. Norman, home to the University of Oklahoma's main campus, is a consistent source of program assistant openings tied to research grants and academic departments.
Are there any Oklahoma-specific factors that affect program assistant visa sponsorship?
Oklahoma's higher education system and tribal nation governments create sponsorship demand that is less common in other states. Many program assistant roles at universities are tied to federally funded grants, which can support H-1B sponsorship costs. The presence of 39 federally recognized tribal nations in Oklahoma also means a distinct category of employers, some of which sponsor international workers for program coordination and community outreach roles.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored program assistant jobs in Oklahoma?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
