Department Summary

The Center for Anatomical Sciences at the University of North Texas Health Science Center is located in the prestigious Cultural District of Fort Worth, TX. Our mission is to offer exceptional educational activities and to advance research in the anatomical sciences and allied fields.

Position Overview

The Willed Body Program Assistant Manager will work closely with Willed Body Program and Center for Anatomical Sciences leadership to ensure effective communication with key audiences (e.g., prospective donors, donor families, medical facilities), ensure the effective preparation and preservation of human cadavers, and coordinate educational/research activities in the anatomy laboratories at UNTHSC. The primary function of this job is to assist the Willed Body Program Manager in overseeing the daily operations of the Willed Body Program in order to promote medical education and research at UNTHSC.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate's degree in Mortuary Science and four (4) years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. A current Texas funeral director's license is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of anatomical embalming techniques and preservation methods.
• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and handle multiple tasks.
• Ability to train and guide staff on procedures and techniques.
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships.
• Knowledge of all laws and legal requirements pertaining to Willed Body Programs in the state of Texas.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in academia preferred.

• Texas Funeral Director and Embalmers License

Job Duties

• Coordinates and directly monitors activities of Willed Body Program staff (e.g., embalmers, dieners, drivers, laboratory technicians), creates work schedules, makes recommendations for new hires or terminations.
• Oversees donor intake, maintenance, and final disposition following program/institutional procedures and all applicable federal/state/local laws and regulations.
• Oversees the performance of embalming and other mortuary procedures to ensure that cadavers are properly prepared and preserved. May perform detailed embalming procedures to maintain the anatomical integrity of cadavers.
• Oversees the cleanliness, sterilization, and organization of the embalming room and other mortuary work areas including the management of embalming supplies, tools, and equipment, ensuring adequate stock levels are maintained.
• Oversees effective correspondence with scheduled groups to ensure the laboratory is properly prepared for approved activities and groups adhere to program/institutional regulations.
• Oversees accurate documentation of mortuary and laboratory-related activities in database management system; develops and implements data entry procedures; ensures data integrity and database security.
• Maintains accurate financial documentation related to mortuary and laboratory activities (e.g., purchasing, invoicing).
• May assist with communications and public relations activities (e.g., accepting donation paperwork, correspondence with donors and families) as directed by leadership.
