Which companies sponsor visas for program assistants in Kentucky?
The most consistent sponsors for program assistant roles in Kentucky are large institutional employers: the University of Kentucky, University of Louisville, Eastern Kentucky University, Norton Healthcare, and Baptist Health. State agencies and federally funded nonprofits operating in Louisville and Lexington also file sponsorships for program support staff, particularly when roles require specialized language skills or subject matter expertise tied to a specific degree.
Which visa types are most common for program assistant roles in Kentucky?
The H-1B is the most common visa for program assistant positions in Kentucky when the role qualifies as a specialty occupation, typically requiring a bachelor's degree in a directly related field such as public health, social work, or education. Universities may also offer J-1 visas for exchange-based program roles. OPT and STEM OPT allow F-1 graduates to work in qualifying positions before pursuing employer-sponsored status.
Which cities in Kentucky have the most program assistant sponsorship jobs?
Louisville and Lexington account for the majority of program assistant sponsorship activity in Kentucky. Louisville's concentration of healthcare systems, nonprofits, and regional corporate headquarters drives demand for program support staff. Lexington benefits from the University of Kentucky's large administrative and research enterprise. Richmond and Bowling Green see smaller but consistent hiring through Eastern Kentucky University and Western Kentucky University respectively.
How to find program assistant visa sponsorship jobs in Kentucky?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for roles where employers have a documented history of visa sponsorship, making it more efficient than broad job searches for international candidates. For program assistant roles in Kentucky, filtering by Lexington and Louisville on Migrate Mate surfaces positions at universities, healthcare networks, and nonprofits that actively support H-1B and OPT candidates. Setting up alerts for new program assistant postings helps you respond quickly when roles open.
What should international candidates know about program assistant roles in Kentucky specifically?
Program assistant positions at Kentucky universities often sit within grant-funded departments, which can affect sponsorship timelines since funding cycles influence hiring decisions. Candidates should confirm whether a role is tied to a specific grant before advancing. Kentucky's lower cost of living compared to coastal states means prevailing wage requirements for H-1B purposes are generally more accessible for employers to meet, which can make sponsorship more feasible for qualifying roles.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored program assistant jobs in Kentucky?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
