Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Visa Sponsorship as a Construction Site Manager
Target commercial and civil contractors, not residential builders
Large commercial general contractors and civil infrastructure firms are far more likely to sponsor visas than residential builders. Federal and state-funded infrastructure projects often require certified managers, making sponsorship more justifiable and common.
Frame your role around engineering or technical management
USCIS scrutinizes construction site manager petitions closely. Emphasizing technical oversight, structural coordination, and engineering-level decision-making strengthens the specialty occupation argument and reduces the risk of an RFE or denial.
A bachelor's degree in civil engineering or construction management is critical
Employers sponsoring a construction site manager typically require a four-year degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related technical field. Without it, the petition is unlikely to survive USCIS review under specialty occupation standards.
Get your foreign degree evaluated before applying
If your degree is from outside the U.S., obtain a credential evaluation from a NACES-accredited evaluator before job applications. Many employers and USCIS require confirmation that your qualification is equivalent to a U.S. bachelor's degree.
Pursue PMP or OSHA certifications to strengthen your profile
A Project Management Professional certification or OSHA 30-hour card signals technical credibility to U.S. employers and immigration officers alike. These credentials support the specialty occupation argument and differentiate you from general supervisors.
Browse construction sponsorship opportunities on Migrate Mate
Most general job boards don't filter by visa sponsorship willingness. Migrate Mate lists construction roles from employers already open to sponsoring, saving you from pursuing companies that won't consider international candidates.

Find Construction Site Manager JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Can a construction site manager qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
Yes, but it requires careful framing. USCIS has historically challenged construction site manager petitions on specialty occupation grounds, arguing the role doesn't always require a specific bachelor's degree. Petitions that document engineering-level responsibilities, technical complexity, and a degree requirement in civil engineering or construction management have the strongest approval outcomes. A detailed job description from the employer is essential.
Do I need a degree in construction management specifically, or will another field work?
Civil engineering, architecture, and project management degrees are all commonly accepted alongside construction management. The key is that your degree must relate directly to the technical functions of the role. A general business degree is unlikely to satisfy USCIS requirements unless your responsibilities are predominantly administrative, which would undercut the specialty occupation argument entirely.
Which visa categories are realistic for construction site managers seeking sponsorship?
H-1B is the most common path for degree-holding candidates, though the annual lottery makes it competitive. EB-3 is available for skilled workers and supports permanent residency, which many construction employers prefer for long-term hires. TN status applies to Canadian and Mexican nationals in engineering-related roles. O-1A is an option for those with documented extraordinary achievement in construction or project delivery.
How do I find construction employers that are actually willing to sponsor?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this. It lists construction roles from employers who have indicated willingness to sponsor international candidates, which is a much more efficient starting point than sifting through general postings. Department of Labor LCA disclosure data also shows which firms have sponsored H-1B roles in construction management in recent years.
Is construction site manager a common H-1B approval or does USCIS deny these frequently?
USCIS denies a meaningful share of construction-related H-1B petitions due to specialty occupation challenges, more so than in fields like software engineering or finance. Approval rates improve significantly when the employer documents that the role requires and is filled by degree holders, includes technical engineering responsibilities, and is comparable to industry-standard positions at similar firms. Strong legal representation makes a measurable difference here.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Construction Site Manager jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
