How to Get Visa Sponsorship in Quality Assurance Lead
Frame your role as a specialty occupation
QA Lead positions qualify for H-1B sponsorship when the job description requires a specific bachelor's degree. Make sure your offer letter specifies the required field of study, not just a generic degree requirement.
Target industries with high sponsorship rates
Software companies, medical device manufacturers, and semiconductor firms sponsor QA Leads at much higher rates than other industries. Focusing your search on these sectors significantly improves your chances of finding a willing employer.
Highlight certifications alongside your degree
ISTQB, ASQ CQE, and Six Sigma certifications strengthen your H-1B specialty occupation argument. They signal technical depth and help employers justify sponsorship when your degree field is not an exact match for the role.
Clarify the L-1 pathway with multinational employers
If you currently work for a company with U.S. operations, the L-1A or L-1B visa may be faster than H-1B. Ask your employer directly whether an intracompany transfer is possible before pursuing the H-1B lottery.
Understand the LCA wage requirement before negotiating
Your employer must file a Labor Condition Application certifying your offered wage meets the prevailing wage for QA Leads in your work location. Knowing the prevailing wage for your city helps you negotiate from an informed position.
Address degree equivalency early in the process
A three-year engineering or computer science degree from Australia, India, or the UK is generally accepted as equivalent to a U.S. four-year degree for H-1B purposes. Confirm this with your employer's immigration attorney before your petition is filed.

Does a Quality Assurance Lead role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B sponsorship?
Yes, in most cases. A QA Lead position qualifies as a specialty occupation when the employer requires a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, engineering, or a related technical field. The key is specificity: the job description must require a degree in a particular discipline, not just any bachelor's degree. Roles that accept any degree regardless of field are more vulnerable to USCIS scrutiny and potential denial.
Which visa types do employers typically use to sponsor Quality Assurance Leads?
H-1B is the most common path for QA Leads at U.S.-based employers. Multinational companies sometimes use the L-1B for specialized knowledge transfers. Australian citizens can pursue the E-3, which has no lottery and significantly shorter wait times. TN status is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals if the role fits a qualifying USMCA occupation category. Browse open QA Lead roles with sponsorship on Migrate Mate to see which visa types specific employers support.
What degree does a QA Lead typically need for visa sponsorship?
Most sponsored QA Lead positions require a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, industrial engineering, or a related technical field. Some employers also accept degrees in information systems or applied mathematics. Three-year degrees from countries like Australia, India, and the UK are generally treated as equivalent to U.S. four-year degrees for H-1B purposes, but your employer's immigration attorney should confirm this before filing.
What is the H-1B approval rate for Quality Assurance Lead positions?
USCIS does not publish approval rates broken down by job title. However, QA Lead petitions filed by established technology and manufacturing companies with strong compliance records tend to perform well. Denials most often stem from job descriptions that fail to establish a specific degree requirement or that describe duties too broadly. Working with an experienced immigration attorney and ensuring your job description is tightly written reduces denial risk considerably.
Can I switch employers on an H-1B if I am a QA Lead?
Yes. H-1B portability allows you to change employers once your new employer files an H-1B transfer petition, even before it is approved, as long as your previous H-1B was approved and you have maintained valid status. Your new employer must file a fresh I-129 petition and a new LCA certified for the new work location. The process typically takes two to four weeks with premium processing.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Quality Assurance Lead jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
