Target large enterprises and Workday partners
Big Four consulting firms, Workday implementation partners, and Fortune 500 companies with internal Workday teams sponsor H-1B visas far more consistently than smaller firms. These employers have established immigration programs and dedicated legal teams to manage the process.
Get Workday certified before you apply
Workday certifications in HCM, Financials, or Prism Analytics signal direct, measurable expertise. Employers sponsoring H-1B visas for this role need to demonstrate specialty occupation status, and certifications strengthen the petition beyond a degree alone.
Frame your degree as field-specific, not just a bachelor's
USCIS scrutinizes whether your degree relates directly to the role. A degree in information systems, business information technology, or computer science maps more cleanly to Workday Consultant than a general business degree. Address the connection explicitly in your resume.
Highlight module specialization in your application
Employers sponsoring visas need to justify a specialized hire. Specific experience with Workday Payroll, Adaptive Planning, or Recruiting modules differentiates your profile and makes the specialty occupation argument to USCIS considerably more straightforward for your employer's attorney.
Ask about sponsorship policy before the final interview round
Some consulting firms sponsor only for full-time internal roles, not client-facing billable positions, due to H-1B placement restrictions. Clarifying this early prevents reaching an offer stage with a company that cannot legally support your visa situation.
Use Migrate Mate to filter for verified sponsoring employers
Migrate Mate's job board shows Workday Consultant openings from employers with confirmed sponsorship history. Filtering by visa type and role saves significant time compared to applying broadly and discovering sponsorship limitations late in the process.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Workday Consultant role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, in the majority of cases. USCIS has consistently approved H-1B visa petitions for Workday and ERP consultants when the petition demonstrates that the position requires a bachelor's degree in a specific field such as information systems, computer science, or accounting. Roles focused on configuration, implementation, and integration work tend to qualify more cleanly than generalist consulting positions. The strength of the specialty occupation argument depends on how the employer's attorney documents the job duties.
Do I need a four-year U.S. bachelor's degree, or will an Australian or Indian three-year degree work?
A three-year bachelor's degree from India or Australia can satisfy H-1B education requirements when combined with relevant work experience, under USCIS's three-for-one equivalency rule. One year of missing education can be substituted with three years of progressive, specialized work experience. A credential evaluation from a NACES-member evaluator is required to document equivalency, and your employer's immigration attorney will typically arrange this as part of the petition.
Which Workday modules give me the strongest sponsorship prospects?
HCM Core and Financials are the most in-demand modules with the largest number of sponsoring employers. Payroll, Prism Analytics, and Adaptive Planning are more specialized and attract a smaller pool of candidates, which can make employers more willing to sponsor. Workday integration development using Studio or EIB also commands strong demand. Browse current openings by module on Migrate Mate to see which specializations have the most active sponsoring employers at any given time.
Can a Workday Consultant role at a staffing or consulting firm run into H-1B placement restrictions?
Yes. H-1B workers placed at third-party client sites are subject to additional USCIS scrutiny under itinerary and specialty occupation rules. Employers must demonstrate that a bona fide employer-employee relationship exists and that the work at the client site qualifies as a specialty occupation. Some staffing firms have strong compliance programs that handle this routinely, while others avoid sponsoring for client-facing roles entirely. Asking specifically about third-party placement policy before accepting an offer is important.
How does the H-1B lottery affect Workday Consultants applying from outside the U.S.?
If you're applying from outside the U.S. without current H-1B status, your petition enters the annual lottery, which has historically selected roughly 25 percent of eligible registrations in recent years. Candidates already in the U.S. on F-1 OPT or STEM OPT can continue working through an approved cap-gap extension while waiting for an H-1B to take effect. Australian citizens have an alternative path through the E-3 visa, which has no lottery and a significantly faster timeline.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Workday Consultant jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
