Target companies with active H-1B filing histories
Employers who have sponsored Partnerships Associates before are far more likely to do it again. Look for mid-to-large SaaS, media, or consulting firms with consistent international hiring patterns rather than startups filing for the first time.
Frame your degree as a specialty occupation qualifier
USCIS requires a specific bachelor's degree for H-1B approval. A degree in business development, marketing, communications, or international relations maps cleanly to Partnerships Associate duties. Avoid letting employers assume any degree suffices.
Clarify sponsorship early, not after the offer
Partnerships roles often involve long sales or recruitment cycles. Raising sponsorship in the first conversation prevents wasted time for both sides and signals professionalism rather than desperation, which most experienced hiring managers appreciate.
Highlight relationship management metrics in your application
Partnerships Associate H-1B petitions succeed when the role is demonstrably specialized. Quantify partner pipeline growth, revenue attribution, or integration outcomes you've driven. Concrete metrics strengthen both your candidacy and the sponsorship case.
Australian citizens should prioritize the E-3 visa
The E-3 visa has no lottery, processes in weeks, and renews indefinitely. Partnerships Associate roles qualify as specialty occupations. E-3 is significantly faster than H-1B for Australians, and far fewer employers understand this, so it helps to explain it upfront.
Consider TN status if you're Canadian or Mexican
Canadian and Mexican nationals in business development or management consulting roles may qualify for TN status under NAFTA successor provisions. TN requires no employer petition fee and can be granted at the port of entry, making it faster than H-1B.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a Partnerships Associate role eligible for H-1B sponsorship?
Yes, but it depends on how the role is defined. USCIS must classify it as a specialty occupation, meaning the position normally requires a bachelor's degree in a specific field like business, marketing, or communications. Roles framed around relationship management, business development strategy, or revenue operations tend to qualify more reliably than generalist coordinator positions.
What degree do I need to get a Partnerships Associate visa sponsored?
A bachelor's degree in business administration, marketing, communications, international relations, or a closely related field is the standard baseline. The key requirement is that your degree must relate directly to the role's core duties. A computer science or unrelated STEM degree may still qualify if the role involves technical partnerships or platform integrations, but the connection needs to be explicitly documented in the petition.
How likely is it that a Partnerships Associate role gets H-1B approved?
Approval rates are reasonable when the petition is well-supported, but Partnerships and Business Development roles do face more USCIS scrutiny than traditional STEM positions. Officers sometimes issue Requests for Evidence questioning whether the role truly requires a degree. Working with an experienced immigration attorney and ensuring the job description clearly articulates degree-level complexity significantly improves approval outcomes.
Which industries are most likely to sponsor Partnerships Associates?
SaaS and enterprise technology companies sponsor at the highest rates because their partnerships programs are large, structured, and involve complex technical or commercial negotiations that genuinely require degree-level expertise. Media, fintech, healthcare technology, and management consulting firms also sponsor consistently. Migrate Mate filters sponsorship-open Partnerships Associate roles by industry so you can focus your applications where they are most likely to succeed.
Can I transfer my H-1B to a new Partnerships Associate role at a different company?
Yes, H-1B visa portability allows you to start working for a new employer as soon as they file a transfer petition, without waiting for approval. The new role must still qualify as a specialty occupation. If the new Partnerships Associate position has a meaningfully different scope or title, a fresh specialty occupation analysis may be needed, but most lateral moves within the same function transfer cleanly.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Partnerships Associate jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
