- Ensure the cloud storage strategy aligns with the overall enterprise technology strategy and business objectives.
- Develop and implement new patterns for moving data at scale from on-premises data centers to public cloud storage.
- Continuously identify and evaluate new storage offerings from cloud service providers to determine their potential value and scope of implementation.

- Strong understanding of modern software development practices and proficiency in at least one modern programming language (e.g., Python, Go, Java).
- Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies (Kubernetes, GKE, EKS) and their integration with resilient data storage patterns.
- Ability to quickly grasp new technologies and perform proof-of-concepts or technical deep dives to inform strategic decisions.
- Exceptional strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a demonstrated capacity to translate complex business challenges into actionable technical roadmaps.
- Proven experience leading, building, and motivating high-performing teams or individuals within a fast-paced, highly regulated environment.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Visa Sponsorship as a Storage Engineer
Target infrastructure-heavy employers
Large enterprises managing significant data center footprints, financial services firms, healthcare networks, and cloud providers, file LCAs for Storage Engineers far more consistently than smaller shops. These employers have established immigration programs and are more likely to sponsor.
Highlight specific storage platforms in your resume
H-1B approvals for Storage Engineers often hinge on demonstrating specialized knowledge. Name the platforms you've worked with, NetApp, Pure Storage, Dell EMC, Hitachi, or specific cloud object storage systems, to signal the technical specificity USCIS looks for.
Confirm your degree field aligns with the role
A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field supports specialty occupation eligibility. Degrees in unrelated fields create petition risk, even with years of hands-on storage experience.
Ask about LCA filing timelines early
Labor Condition Application certification from the Department of Labor must happen before your visa petition is filed. Raise this in the offer stage, not after signing, so there's no gap between your start date and when your authorization is actually in place.
Look for roles with H-1B cap-exempt employers
Universities, nonprofit research institutions, and certain government-affiliated organizations are exempt from the H-1B lottery. Storage roles at these employers can be filed any time of year, giving you a path to work authorization without depending on the annual lottery cycle.
Use Migrate Mate to filter for verified sponsoring employers
Not every job posting that lists storage skills will come with sponsorship. Migrate Mate surfaces roles from employers with confirmed H-1B filing histories, so you spend time applying to companies that have already demonstrated willingness to sponsor this type of role.

Find Storage Engineer JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Storage Engineer qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, Storage Engineer generally qualifies as a specialty occupation when the role requires a bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field. The key is that the job description must tie specific technical duties, SAN/NAS architecture, storage performance tuning, disaster recovery design, to a degree requirement in a specific discipline, not just any bachelor's degree.
What degree do I need to get H-1B sponsorship as a Storage Engineer?
A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field is the standard requirement. Degrees in unrelated fields like business or humanities create specialty occupation risk even if you have years of storage experience. If your degree doesn't match, three years of demonstrated specialized work experience can substitute for one year of formal education under USCIS equivalency rules.
How often do employers sponsor Storage Engineers for H-1B visas?
Storage Engineers appear regularly in DOL LCA disclosure data, with consistent filings from enterprise IT departments, cloud infrastructure teams, and managed service providers. Financial institutions, healthcare systems, and large technology companies are among the most frequent sponsors. Approval rates for clearly defined infrastructure roles with specific degree requirements tend to be strong compared to more generalist IT titles.
Can I find Storage Engineer jobs with H-1B sponsorship on Migrate Mate?
Yes. Migrate Mate aggregates Storage Engineer roles from employers with verified H-1B filing histories, so you can filter specifically for companies that sponsor rather than sifting through listings where sponsorship availability is unclear. This is particularly useful for Storage Engineer searches because sponsorship willingness varies significantly between small IT shops and large enterprise employers.
Does a storage-focused certification substitute for a degree when applying for H-1B sponsorship?
Certifications alone, such as vendor credentials from NetApp, Pure Storage, or VMware, do not substitute for a bachelor's degree in USCIS's specialty occupation analysis. However, they can strengthen a petition by demonstrating specialized knowledge that supports the employer's requirement for a degreed professional. If you lack a relevant degree, your employer's attorney will need to build an equivalency argument using a combination of partial education and years of progressive storage experience.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Storage Engineer jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
