Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Visa Sponsorship as a Genai Engineer
Lead with your AI stack, not your job title
Recruiters scanning for sponsored GenAI roles look for specific tools: PyTorch, LangChain, RAG pipelines, fine-tuning workflows. List these prominently on your resume. A generic 'AI Engineer' title with a strong stack gets more callbacks than a polished title with vague skills.
Target companies with active LCA filings in AI
Companies that have filed Labor Condition Applications for AI or machine learning roles in the past 12 months are significantly more likely to sponsor again. Look for patterns in DOL disclosure data. Repeat filers have established legal processes, which means faster, smoother sponsorship for you.
Clarify your visa status early, not at offer stage
Many GenAI hiring managers aren't familiar with visa timelines. Mentioning your status early, framing it as a straightforward process, prevents late-stage deal-breakers. A brief explanation of H-1B or O-1 requirements during early conversations sets realistic expectations for both sides.
A degree in CS, ML, or a related field strengthens your case
H-1B specialty occupation requires a degree directly related to the role. For GenAI positions, computer science, electrical engineering, mathematics, or statistics degrees map cleanly. If your degree is in another field, documented experience in machine learning or AI systems becomes especially critical to include.
O-1A is worth exploring if you have recognized AI work
Published research, open-source contributions with significant adoption, speaking at major AI conferences, or high-citation papers can support an O-1A petition. This visa has no lottery and no annual cap, making it a strong alternative for GenAI engineers with a visible track record in the field.
Use Migrate Mate to filter for roles that explicitly sponsor
Most job boards don't surface visa sponsorship availability clearly. Migrate Mate is built specifically to show which GenAI Engineer roles include sponsorship, saving you hours of researching individual companies before applying. Browse open roles filtered by sponsorship status to prioritize where your time goes.

Find Genai Engineer JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Is GenAI Engineer considered a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes. GenAI Engineer roles qualify as specialty occupations under H-1B standards because they require at minimum a bachelor's degree in a specific technical field, typically computer science, machine learning, mathematics, or a directly related discipline. USCIS has consistently approved H-1B petitions for AI and machine learning engineering roles, and the DOL regularly certifies LCAs for these positions without significant challenge.
How competitive is H-1B sponsorship for GenAI Engineers compared to other tech roles?
GenAI is one of the highest-demand areas in tech right now, which cuts both ways. More companies are willing to sponsor because the talent pool with these specific skills is limited. However, you still face the annual H-1B lottery if you're cap-subject. In FY2025, USCIS selected roughly 25% of registrations. Companies hiring GenAI engineers frequently use cap-exempt routes, such as university research positions or nonprofit affiliations, to bypass the lottery entirely.
Can I qualify for an O-1A visa as a GenAI Engineer?
Yes, if you have demonstrable recognition in the field. Published research in peer-reviewed AI journals, significant open-source contributions, presentations at recognized conferences like NeurIPS or ICML, or employment in a critical role at a leading AI organization can all support an O-1A petition. The O-1A has no lottery and no annual cap, making it a practical alternative for engineers with a visible track record who want to avoid H-1B uncertainty.
What degree do I need for a sponsored GenAI Engineer role?
A bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, electrical engineering, applied mathematics, statistics, or a closely related field satisfies the H-1B specialty occupation requirement for most GenAI Engineer positions. Degrees in unrelated fields create complications. If your degree doesn't align, three years of directly relevant professional experience can substitute for each year of missing education under USCIS equivalency rules, though this requires careful documentation and is scrutinized more closely.
Where can I find GenAI Engineer jobs that offer visa sponsorship?
Most general job boards don't filter by sponsorship availability, so you waste time applying to roles that won't sponsor. Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and surfaces GenAI Engineer roles where employers have indicated willingness to sponsor. You can browse current openings filtered by sponsorship status, which saves significant time in your search.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Genai Engineer jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
