- Develop strategies for ranking in both traditional search and generative search interfaces, including AI answer engines.
- Drive entity-based SEO, structured data expansion, and E-E-A-T optimization to strengthen brand authority in generative engines.
- Identify and pilot AI-driven SEO workflows (content augmentation, clustering, topical mapping, prompt engineering, automation, QA).
- Partner with Product and Engineering leadership to influence roadmap priorities, advocate for SEO needs, and support major site redesigns or migrations.
- Work closely with Legal/Compliance on content and claims approvals, ensuring compliance does not hinder organic growth.
- Lead cross-functional working groups and evangelize SEO + GEO best practices across the organization.
- Oversee technical SEO audits and prioritization of fixes, working with engineering teams to ensure timely delivery.
- Guide structured data, schema strategies, indexation optimization, internal linking enhancements, and page-speed improvements.
- Maintain oversight of local SEO operations, including listings accuracy and local authority-building strategies (executed through team members or vendors).
- Oversee the content operations process, including editorial planning, content briefs, calendar ownership, and governance.
- Ensure all content is optimized for both traditional SEO and emerging GEO requirements (answer-first formatting, entity optimization, structured content).
- Provide guidance—not execution—on CMS content publishing and content lifecycle management.
- Oversee relationships, SOWs, quarterly reviews, and performance evaluations for key SEO and GEO vendors (Conductor, Chatmeter, Milestone, PR partners, etc.).
- Manage SEO budget tracking and forecasting in partnership with Finance.
- Lead test-and-learn frameworks for SEO, GEO, SERP experimentation, AI search monitoring, and competitive intelligence.
- Deliver monthly and quarterly executive-level reporting on organic performance, highlighting insights, risks, and opportunities.
- Use GSC, Conductor, GA4, and custom dashboards to analyze trends and guide data-driven recommendations.
- Mentor internal team members and elevate SEO capabilities across the organization.
- Provide training on evolving GEO best practices, AI search fundamentals, and responsible use of generative AI.
- Serve as the team's senior point of escalation for complex SEO or GEO questions.

How to Get Visa Sponsorship in Generative Engine Optimization
Frame your role as a specialty occupation
USCIS requires that your position demand a specific bachelor's degree. For GEO roles, emphasize the technical depth required, NLP, LLM architecture, or retrieval-augmented generation, rather than framing the job as general marketing or content work.
Target companies already filing H-1B petitions
AI-forward companies sponsoring engineers and data scientists are far more likely to extend sponsorship to GEO specialists. Look for employers with existing USCIS petition history in technical roles, which signals an established immigration infrastructure and legal support.
Align your degree field to the job description
GEO roles can fall under computer science, information systems, or even computational linguistics depending on the employer. Make sure your degree field maps directly to what the job description requires, mismatches are a common H-1B denial trigger.
Document the technical scope of your responsibilities
Vague job duties hurt specialty occupation arguments. Work with your employer to ensure the offer letter and H-1B petition specify technical tasks like prompt engineering, model evaluation, or structured data schema design, not just 'content optimization.'
Start the LCA process early
Your employer must file a Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor before the H-1B petition reaches USCIS. This step alone can take one to two weeks, so initiating sponsorship conversations well before your start date or status deadline matters.
Browse GEO roles on Migrate Mate
Not every job posting signals sponsorship willingness upfront. Migrate Mate filters for visa-sponsoring employers, helping you focus your search on companies actively open to H-1B candidates rather than applying broadly and asking later in the process.

Get Access To All JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Can a Generative Engine Optimization role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes, if the position genuinely requires a bachelor's degree in a specific technical field such as computer science, information systems, or computational linguistics. The key is that the degree requirement must be tied to the role's core duties. GEO roles that blend AI model interaction with structured content strategy can qualify, but the petition needs detailed documentation of the technical work involved to withstand USCIS scrutiny.
What degree do I need to get H-1B sponsorship for a GEO position?
Most employers sponsoring GEO roles require a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, data science, or a closely related field. Some positions may accept a degree in linguistics or communications if the role emphasizes natural language processing. The degree field must logically connect to the specific technical duties in the job description. A general business or marketing degree is unlikely to support a specialty occupation argument without significant technical coursework documented.
Are Generative Engine Optimization jobs commonly sponsoring visas right now?
GEO is an emerging specialization, and sponsorship availability is growing but uneven. Large technology companies, AI startups, and enterprise SaaS firms are most likely to sponsor because they already have immigration programs in place for engineering roles. Smaller agencies or marketing-focused employers are less likely to sponsor. Migrate Mate lists GEO and related AI content roles filtered by sponsorship openness, which makes it easier to identify which employers are actively willing to file petitions.
Does the H-1B lottery affect my chances of getting sponsored for a GEO role?
It depends on your situation. If you're already in the U.S. on H-1B status and changing employers, there's no lottery, your new employer files a transfer petition and you can start working once it's received. If you're applying for a new H-1B from outside the U.S. or from a non-H-1B status, you'd need to go through the annual lottery, which runs in March with an approximately 25% selection rate for most applicants. Australians may have better options through the E-3 visa, which has no lottery.
Can an employer sponsor a GEO role if the job is fully remote?
Yes, but it adds complexity. The H-1B requires a Labor Condition Application filed for each worksite location. For fully remote roles, USCIS and the Department of Labor have specific rules about which address to list and whether a new LCA is needed when you work from different locations. Your employer's immigration attorney will need to structure the petition carefully. Remote GEO roles are sponsorable, but the administrative burden on the employer is higher than for office-based positions.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Generative Engine Optimization jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
