Duties & Responsibilities:
This role goes beyond standard Information Technology (IT) help desk support, providing advanced Tier-2/Tier-3 technical endpoint engineering, hardware integration, and specialized operational support across macOS, Windows 11, and mobile endpoint environments. Operating under limited supervision, the Systems Analyst serves as the primary operational support lead for advanced digital dentistry technology, clinical hardware integration, 3D printing and milling equipment, intraoral scanners, and CBCT imaging systems across VCU School of Dentistry and VCU Dental Care clinics and labs. Additionally, this position serves as a secondary backup for instructional technology and classroom lecture hall operations.
Responsibilities
Core Endpoint Engineering & System Administration (50%)
- Enterprise Management: Maintain, image, configure, deploy, and troubleshoot macOS, Windows 11, and mobile device endpoints using enterprise management tools including Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM), Microsoft Intune, Microsoft Entra ID, Active Directory, Quest KACE, and Jamf Pro.
- Automation & Scripting: Utilize custom PowerShell and shell scripts for endpoint automation, configuration, and advanced technical troubleshooting.
- Tier-2/3 Technical Support: Resolve escalated Tier-2/Tier-3 IT service tickets, conduct root-cause analysis, and execute corrective technical actions.
- Liaison & Collaboration: Serve as a technical liaison between clinical users, academic faculty, vendor engineering teams, and central IT Services to resolve complex application and hardware integration issues.
- Instructional Tech Backup: Provide secondary backup support for instructional technologies, AV equipment, and lecture hall operations during live academic events.
- Documentation: Document standard operating procedures, technical workflows, and knowledge base articles in Google Drive and Confluence.
Specialized Digital Dentistry Hardware & Imaging Operations (50%)
- Digital Dentistry Lab & Clinical Hardware: Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot specialized clinical and lab hardware, including 3Shape Trios intraoral scanners, Dentsply 3D printers, and CAD/CAM milling units.
- 3D Extraoral Diagnostic Imaging: Manage 3D extraoral imaging equipment and software, supporting Carestream and Romexis Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) diagnostic systems.
- Direct Digital Radiography: Configure, calibrate, and repair direct digital radiography hardware, specifically XDR and Dexis intraoral sensors and cameras.
- Hardware Driver & Interface Integration: Perform preventative maintenance, hardware driver integration, and interface troubleshooting between clinical imaging software/PACS ecosystems and endpoint workstations.
- Vendor Operations: Work directly with specialized dental equipment vendors to escalate and resolve complex software, firmware, and hardware integration challenges.
Working Hours & Conditions
- Schedule: Standard working hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (with core operational coverage required between 7:30 AM and 4:30 PM).
- After-Hours Support: Occasional work outside normal business hours is required for endpoint upgrades, system updates, clinical maintenance windows, and imaging deployments.
- Physical Requirements: Must be able to demonstrate OSHA-compliant lifting techniques for equipment up to 50 lbs.
