At WSP, you will help lead the delivery of complex alternative delivery projects from teaming and procurement through execution and closeout. You will coordinate multidisciplinary teams, oversee project controls related to scope, schedule, budget, quality, and risk, and support disciplined execution aligned with WSP’s alternative delivery standards. Your Impact
The ADSPM leads complex alternative delivery projects from teaming and procurement through execution and closeout. In partnership with regional leadership, Alternative Delivery team, and project teams, the ADSPM shapes delivery strategy, leads pre-award and post-award activities, and drives performance against scope, schedule, quality, and financial objectives. This role also reinforces consistent delivery practices and strengthens client and partner relationships.
Beyond the focused project delivery work, the ADSPM also supports regional business development and account management by maintaining contractor relationships, identifying opportunities, coordinating follow-through with local and regional leadership, and contributing to regional pipeline planning. The ADSPM may also provide executive oversight on behalf of the region on smaller alternative delivery opportunities.
Job Duties:
- Manage an alternative delivery project through teaming, pre-award, post-award, and closeout, with responsibility for coordination, scope, schedule, budget, quality, and risk.
- Support business development and capture activities, including teaming coordination, pursuit planning, proposal and fee development, scope definition, procurement responses, and interview preparation.
- Serve as a senior point of coordination for contractor clients, subconsultants, and internal teams, promoting clear communication, timely decision-making, executive alignment, and strong working relationships on alternative delivery projects.
- Develop, maintain, and monitor project management plans, work plans, schedules, budgets, and risk registers, implementing corrective actions as needed to support performance.
- Lead multidisciplinary technical teams and delivery reviews to ensure alignment with project requirements, contractual obligations, commercial objectives, and quality expectations.
- Lead project phase transitions and closeout activities to maintain continuity, documentation quality, and alignment with business and client objectives.
- Lead lessons learned and after-action reviews, and contribute to the improvement of alternative delivery tools, templates, standard operating procedures, and best practices.
- Participate in relevant industry organizations and events related to alternative delivery and support strategic initiatives as directed by leadership.
- Adhere to all internal processes, ethical standards, and company policies, and perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Emphasize Technical Leadership Experience
Document your experience managing engineering teams, setting technical architecture, and driving product development. Immigration officers value demonstrated leadership of complex technical projects and strategic technology decisions.
Highlight Cross-Functional Collaboration
Technical Directors work closely with product, business, and executive teams. Showcase examples of translating technical concepts to stakeholders and aligning technology strategy with business objectives.
Document System Architecture Decisions
Demonstrate your role in designing scalable systems, choosing technology stacks, and solving complex infrastructure challenges. These technical decisions show the specialized knowledge required for H-1B qualification.
Show Measurable Technical Impact
Quantify improvements in system performance, development velocity, or technical debt reduction under your leadership. Concrete metrics strengthen your case for extraordinary ability or specialty occupation classification.
Address Degree Field Alignment
If your degree isn't in computer science or engineering, highlight relevant technical certifications, advanced training, or the three-for-one experience rule that substitutes work experience for educational requirements.
Consider O-1 for Senior Roles
Technical Directors with industry recognition, published research, or leadership at high-growth companies may qualify for O-1 visas, which bypass H-1B lottery constraints and offer faster processing.
Frequently Asked Questions
What degree is required for Technical Director H-1B sponsorship?
A bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, information systems, or a closely related technical field is typically required. If your degree is in an unrelated field, you can use the three-for-one rule where three years of relevant technical experience substitutes for one year of education. Advanced degrees or technical certifications can strengthen your application.
Do Technical Directors qualify for O-1 visas?
Yes, Technical Directors with extraordinary achievements may qualify for O-1 visas. This includes industry recognition, published technical research, speaking at major conferences, leading breakthrough projects, or holding senior roles at unicorn companies. O-1 bypasses H-1B lottery constraints and allows faster processing for qualified candidates.
How do employers prove Technical Director roles are specialty occupations?
Employers must demonstrate the position requires specialized technical knowledge typically acquired through a bachelor's degree. They document complex system architecture decisions, advanced programming requirements, team leadership responsibilities, and strategic technology planning that requires formal technical education or equivalent experience.
What are approval rates for Technical Director visa applications?
H-1B approval rates for computer and IT management roles, including Technical Directors, are typically 85-90%. O-1 applications have higher approval rates around 94% but require meeting extraordinary ability criteria. EB-2 and EB-3 green card applications for technical leadership roles generally have strong approval rates when properly documented.
How to find Technical Director jobs with visa sponsorship?
To find Technical Director jobs with visa sponsorship, use Migrate Mate, which specializes in connecting international professionals with sponsoring employers. Focus on tech companies, gaming studios, film production houses, and large corporations that commonly sponsor H-1B, O-1, or L-1 visas for senior technical leadership roles. These employers typically have established visa sponsorship programs and budgets for executive-level international talent.
Can Technical Directors change employers on H-1B status?
Yes, but the new employer must file a new H-1B petition. You can start working for the new employer once they file the petition if you haven't reached the six-year H-1B limit. Technical Directors often have strong cases for premium processing to expedite the transfer and minimize employment gaps.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Technical Director jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
