Target supervisory and specialized positions
Look for roles like kennel manager, animal care coordinator, or veterinary assistant that require specialized training or management responsibilities rather than basic attendant positions.
Highlight relevant education credentials
If you have a degree in animal science, veterinary technology, or business management, emphasize how it applies to kennel operations and animal welfare protocols.
Focus on larger veterinary hospitals
Multi-location veterinary chains and large animal hospitals are more likely to sponsor visas for management positions and have experience with immigration processes.
Consider related healthcare pathways
Veterinary technician roles often qualify for H-1B sponsorship and provide a pathway from kennel work to specialized animal healthcare with proper certification.
Emphasize operational expertise
Frame your experience around facility management, staff coordination, animal behavior assessment, and safety protocol implementation rather than basic care tasks.
Explore state licensing opportunities
Some states require specialized licenses for animal care facilities. Obtaining relevant certifications can strengthen your case for positions requiring specialized knowledge.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do kennel attendant jobs qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
Basic kennel attendant positions typically don't qualify for H-1B visas because they don't require a specialized bachelor's degree. However, supervisory roles like kennel manager or positions requiring veterinary technology education may qualify. The key is finding roles that involve management, specialized animal care protocols, or facility operations rather than basic feeding and cleaning duties.
What degree do I need for visa sponsorship in animal care?
For visa sponsorship, you typically need a bachelor's degree in animal science, veterinary technology, business administration, or a related field. The degree must directly relate to the job requirements. For example, a kennel manager position might require business management knowledge for operations, staff scheduling, and facility compliance with animal welfare regulations.
Which animal care employers are most likely to sponsor visas?
Large veterinary hospital chains, research institutions, and major pet care companies are most likely to sponsor visas. These employers often have dedicated HR departments familiar with immigration processes and need managers for multiple locations. Examples include VCA Animal Hospitals, BluePearl, and university veterinary programs that require specialized operational expertise.
Can I get sponsored for a kennel job without veterinary experience?
Without veterinary experience, you'll need to target management-focused positions that emphasize your other skills. If you have a business degree, look for kennel manager roles requiring operational management, staff training, and facility compliance. Alternatively, consider starting with veterinary technician certification programs that can lead to sponsorship-eligible positions.
How to find Kennel Attendant jobs with visa sponsorship?
To find Kennel Attendant jobs with visa sponsorship, use Migrate Mate, which specializes in connecting international candidates with sponsoring employers. Focus your search on veterinary clinics, animal hospitals, pet boarding facilities, and animal shelters that commonly hire international workers. These positions typically qualify for H-2B visa seasonal worker visas or employer-sponsored work permits, depending on the country and specific role requirements.
What's the approval rate for animal care H-1B petitions?
USCIS doesn't publish approval rates by specific job title, but animal care positions face scrutiny because many don't meet the specialty occupation requirement. Management positions with clear degree requirements and operational responsibilities have better approval odds than basic care roles. Success depends on the employer demonstrating that the position requires specialized knowledge beyond general animal care.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Kennel Attendant jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
