Job Description:
The Materials Manager must have proven experience in directing and coordinating the effectiveness of all material/supply chain management activities for the business including purchasing, inventory control, production control, scheduling, planning, warehouse, shipping and customer delivery support.
Reporting directly to the PDS Director of Operations, you will manage all functional areas in Materials/Supply Chain, such as material planning and control, shipping, inventory and sourcing of future supply chain opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Must understand and apply principles, concepts, practices and standards for material management with a full and competent knowledge of industry and company practices.
- Develop a purchasing model for our organization and related support functions that can be used to analyze and track historical costs as well as reduce future spending.
- Analyze changes or new issues in materials and supplies to find ways to reduce costs and improve quality.
- Prepare a monthly set of management reports to track and control major expense categories.
- Interface with third-party vendors to minimize and control cost of goods and services.
- Develop third-party supplier agreements such as vendor managed inventory and other arrangements as required by the business.
- Assist with departmental budget/forecast preparation with a constant focus on streamlining costs and improving efficiencies.
- Manage the setting and achievement of department goals and objectives to align with overall company goals.
- Directly supervises employees on the materials team. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Job Requirements:
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Business or related discipline is highly desired with 5 years of supply chain/materials management experience.
- Must be very analytical and metric focused.
- Proven leadership and management experience in Purchasing or Materials.
- Must have demonstrated skills in the areas of problem solving/reasoning, communication, leadership and ability to operate at a level that meets the scope and impact required for the team and company.
- Must understand the process flow for fabricated and purchased parts.
- Must thoroughly understand Engineering and Manufacturing Bills of Material and be capable of performing requirements analysis and reconciliation of both make and buy components.
- Experience must include negotiation and bid and cost proposal experience.
- Must have the ability to clearly convey information orally and in writing.
- Knowledge of ERP/MRP systems. Experience with Oracle a plus.
- Critical skill sets include the ability to collaborate cross-functionally, build consensus, shape/influence opinion and develop and articulate the future state.
- Lean, Six Sigma, Continuous Improvement Methodologies desired.
- Travel: up to 10%
- Ability to multi-task and maintain organization in a fast paced, changing environment.
- Ability to manage change in an organization reengineering its culture and approach to workload management.
