Frame your degree as a requirement, not a bonus
H-1B eligibility hinges on your role qualifying as a specialty occupation. A business, marketing, or communications degree tied directly to the AE function strengthens the petition. Employers who list a degree as optional rather than required create risk at USCIS.
Target SaaS and enterprise software employers first
Tech companies with recurring revenue models and dedicated immigration counsel sponsor Mid Market AEs at higher rates than traditional industries. These employers understand the process, have established LCA workflows, and are less likely to withdraw an offer when sponsorship complexity becomes clear.
Understand the LCA before your offer conversation
Your employer must file a Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor before your H-1B petition. Knowing this helps you answer sponsor timeline questions confidently and signals to hiring managers that you understand the process and won't slow things down.
Australians should ask about the E-3 visa specifically
Australian citizens can bypass the H-1B lottery entirely using the E-3 visa, which renews indefinitely in two-year increments. Mid Market AE roles consistently qualify. This is a significant advantage worth raising directly with employers who seem uncertain about H-1B sponsorship.
Canadians and Mexicans have TN visa access
The TN visa covers certain professional categories under the USMCA treaty. While AE roles require careful positioning as a qualifying management or marketing professional, some candidates successfully obtain TN status. Confirm the occupational category fits before assuming eligibility.
Get clear on cap-exempt employers early
Universities, nonprofit research institutions, and certain government-affiliated organizations are exempt from the H-1B annual cap and lottery. A Mid Market AE role at a qualifying institution could mean no wait, no lottery risk, and a faster path to status than a standard for-profit employer.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Mid Market Account Executive role qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
It can, but it depends on how the role is defined. USCIS requires the position to qualify as a specialty occupation, meaning a specific bachelor's degree or higher must be a standard requirement for the role, not just preferred. Mid Market AE positions tied to business development, enterprise sales strategy, or solution consulting with a formal degree requirement in business, marketing, or a related field have been approved. Generic sales roles where any degree satisfies the requirement face more scrutiny.
How competitive is H-1B sponsorship for sales roles like Mid Market AE?
The H-1B lottery remains the biggest obstacle, not the petition itself. In recent years, USCIS has received over 400,000 registrations for 85,000 available slots, putting selection odds around 20 to 25 percent. For Australians, the E-3 visa sidesteps the lottery entirely. If you're subject to the cap, employers willing to sponsor will typically file in April for an October 1 start date, so timing your job search accordingly matters.
What degree do I need to get sponsored as a Mid Market Account Executive?
A bachelor's degree in business administration, marketing, communications, or a closely related field is the most defensible credential for an H-1B petition in this role. Degrees in unrelated fields can still work if you can demonstrate a logical connection between your coursework and the AE function. A degree in computer science supporting a technical sales role at a software company, for example, can be a credible fit depending on the petition's framing.
Which types of employers are most likely to sponsor a Mid Market Account Executive?
SaaS companies, fintech platforms, enterprise software vendors, and cloud infrastructure providers sponsor Mid Market AEs at the highest rates because they have established immigration programs and recurring revenue that justifies the investment. Migrate Mate's job board filters specifically for visa-sponsoring employers in this category, so you can focus your applications on companies that have already committed to sponsoring rather than negotiating it case by case.
Can I transfer my H-1B to a new employer if I change companies as a Mid Market AE?
Yes. H-1B portability allows you to start working for a new employer as soon as the new H-1B transfer petition is filed, without waiting for approval, as long as your current H-1B was previously approved and you maintain valid status. Your new employer files Form I-129 and a new LCA reflecting the AE role at their company. The underlying job duties and degree requirement must still satisfy specialty occupation standards at the new employer.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Mid Market Account Executive jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
