Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Visa Sponsorship as a New Product Development Manager
Target large product-driven employers
Companies with dedicated R&D pipelines, such as those in consumer electronics, medical devices, and packaged goods, are most likely to sponsor. They hire New Product Development Managers regularly and have established immigration infrastructure to support the process.
Lead with quantified product launch outcomes
Sponsoring employers need to justify the H-1B petition. Concrete metrics, such as revenue generated by products you launched, time-to-market improvements, or cost savings from process changes, make your case significantly stronger than a list of responsibilities.
Clarify your specialty occupation eligibility early
H-1B approval hinges on the role qualifying as a specialty occupation. New Product Development Manager positions tied to engineering or technical domains qualify more cleanly than generalist roles. Confirm the job description references degree-specific knowledge before applying.
Understand the H-1B lottery timeline before accepting offers
If you need a new H-1B, registration opens in March for an October start. Employers may offer roles contingent on lottery selection. Plan your job search to align with this timeline so you are not left waiting without valid work authorization.
Consider O-1A if your track record is strong
Exceptional product developers with patents, published work, industry awards, or documented leadership on high-profile launches may qualify for the O-1A visa. It bypasses the lottery entirely and can be filed at any point in the year, removing a major bottleneck.
Negotiate for the employer to cover immigration legal fees
Many mid-size and large companies cover attorney and filing fees for sponsored roles. Raising this during the offer stage is standard practice and rarely jeopardizes an offer. Clarifying who pays upfront avoids surprises once the petition process begins.

Find New Product Development Manager JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Do New Product Development Manager roles commonly get H-1B sponsorship?
Yes, particularly at companies in consumer goods, medical devices, industrial manufacturing, and tech hardware. Roles grounded in engineering, materials science, or product systems qualify more cleanly as specialty occupations under H-1B rules. Generalist product manager titles at smaller companies can face greater scrutiny during adjudication, so the job description's language matters as much as the actual work.
What degree does a New Product Development Manager need for an H-1B?
USCIS requires a specific bachelor's degree or higher in a field directly related to the role. Degrees in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, chemical engineering, or business with a product focus are the most defensible. A general business degree may be challenged unless the job description explicitly ties the degree field to the core duties. An MBA alongside a technical undergraduate degree strengthens the petition considerably.
How can I find New Product Development Manager jobs that offer visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lists jobs specifically filtered for visa sponsorship, so you are not wading through postings from employers unwilling to sponsor. Focusing your search there significantly narrows the field to companies already familiar with the H-1B process, which reduces the time you spend in conversations with employers who decline at the sponsorship question.
Can an O-1A visa work for a New Product Development Manager?
It can, but the bar is high. Qualifying criteria include patents, significant contributions to product lines with documented commercial impact, peer-reviewed publications, industry awards, or membership in professional associations requiring outstanding achievement. If you have led launches that generated substantial market results or hold patents in your field, an immigration attorney's assessment of O-1A eligibility is worth pursuing alongside your H-1B options.
What happens to my H-1B if I move from one product development role to a different company?
H-1B portability allows you to start working for a new employer as soon as they file a transfer petition, provided your current H-1B was previously approved and you have maintained valid status. You do not need to wait for approval before starting. However, if the new role differs substantially in duties or degree requirements from the original petition, the employer should file an amended petition to avoid complications.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored New Product Development Manager jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
