Emphasize your advanced practice certification
Board certification as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in palliative care demonstrates specialized expertise that supports H-1B specialty occupation requirements and strengthens employer sponsorship cases.
Target healthcare systems with existing visa programs
Large hospital networks, academic medical centers, and integrated health systems often have established immigration departments and experience sponsoring healthcare professionals for work visas.
Document your specialized training thoroughly
Palliative care fellowships, hospice certifications, and pain management training demonstrate specialized knowledge that justifies visa sponsorship beyond basic nursing qualifications for immigration purposes.
Consider EB-2 National Interest Waiver eligibility
Nurse practitioners serving underserved populations or addressing healthcare shortages may qualify for NIW green cards, bypassing employer sponsorship requirements while maintaining current employment flexibility.
Prepare for nursing license verification delays
State nursing board license verification can add 4-8 weeks to visa processing. Start your license application immediately after job offers to avoid timeline conflicts.
Understand CGFNS requirements for foreign-educated nurses
International nursing graduates typically need Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools evaluation and certification before USCIS will approve visa applications, regardless of experience level.

Find Palliative Care Nurse Practitioner JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Do palliative care nurse practitioners qualify for H-1B visas?
Yes, palliative care nurse practitioners qualify for H-1B visas as specialty occupations. The role requires a Master of Science in Nursing degree and advanced practice certification, which meets USCIS specialty occupation criteria. Your clinical expertise in end-of-life care demonstrates specialized knowledge beyond general nursing practice.
What degree requirements apply for visa sponsorship as a palliative care NP?
You need a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree, plus current APRN licensure and palliative care board certification. Foreign nursing degrees typically require CGFNS evaluation and verification before USCIS will approve visa applications, regardless of your clinical experience level.
Which visa categories work best for palliative care nurse practitioners?
H-1B visas work for specialty nursing positions at hospitals and healthcare systems. EB-3 provides a direct green card path for registered nurses. EB-2 National Interest Waivers may apply if you're serving underserved populations or addressing documented healthcare shortages in rural or low-income communities.
How do H-1B approval rates compare for nurse practitioners versus other roles?
Nurse practitioners have strong H-1B approval rates because the role clearly requires specialized education and certification. Healthcare positions generally face fewer RFEs than business roles, though you must demonstrate that your specific position requires advanced nursing knowledge beyond basic patient care.
How to find Palliative Care Nurse Practitioner jobs with visa sponsorship?
To find Palliative Care Nurse Practitioner positions with visa sponsorship, use Migrate Mate to search specialized healthcare employers including hospitals, hospices, cancer centers, and integrated health systems. These organizations frequently sponsor H-1B and EB-3 visas for qualified nurse practitioners. Focus on large medical centers and healthcare networks that have established immigration support programs for international nursing professionals.
Can I transfer my nursing license while on a work visa?
Yes, but state nursing license transfers can be complex and time-consuming while on a work visa. You'll need to meet new state requirements, which may include additional coursework or examinations. Start the transfer process early and maintain your current license until the new one is approved.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Palliative Care Nurse Practitioner jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
