How to Get Visa Sponsorship in Platform Engineering Lead
Target companies with established platform teams
Large tech companies and scale-ups with dedicated platform or infrastructure organizations file H-1B petitions routinely. Their legal teams handle LCA filings efficiently, which reduces your risk of paperwork delays or first-time sponsorship mistakes.
Clarify sponsorship scope before deep interviews
Ask whether the company sponsors H-1B transfers, not just new cap-subject filings. Platform Engineering Lead is a senior role, and many employers will fast-track premium processing for the right candidate without you needing to negotiate it.
Align your resume to specialty occupation standards
USCIS requires the role to demand a specific bachelor's degree field. Highlight systems design, distributed infrastructure, and engineering leadership to reinforce that generic degrees cannot substitute for the technical depth this role requires.
Senior title strengthens your EB-2 green card case
Lead-level engineering roles often involve specialized knowledge and organizational influence, which supports National Interest Waiver eligibility. Ask prospective employers whether they initiate PERM or NIW sponsorship for senior platform engineering hires.
Document your technical leadership with specifics
USCIS scrutinizes senior engineering petitions for evidence the role genuinely requires an advanced specialist. Quantify your impact on platform reliability, team size led, and infrastructure scope to make the specialty occupation argument straightforward.

Does Platform Engineering Lead qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes. Platform Engineering Lead roles require at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field, which satisfies the specialty occupation definition. USCIS approves H-1B petitions for senior platform and infrastructure engineering roles at a high rate when the job description clearly requires field-specific theoretical and practical knowledge, not just general technical aptitude.
How does the H-1B lottery affect my chances of getting sponsored for this role?
The annual H-1B lottery selects roughly 25 to 30 percent of registrations, so there is real uncertainty. However, Platform Engineering Lead is a senior role, and some employers will file under the cap-exempt route if they are universities or qualifying nonprofits. Australian citizens can sidestep the lottery entirely via the E-3 visa. Canadians and Mexicans may qualify for TN status under the engineer category.
What degree do employers and USCIS expect for a Platform Engineering Lead?
Computer science, software engineering, electrical engineering, or information systems degrees are the most defensible for USCIS purposes. Some employers accept equivalent combinations under the three-for-one rule, where three years of specialized work experience can substitute for one year of formal education, but a directly related bachelor's degree significantly reduces petition risk at the H-1B stage.
Can I find Platform Engineering Lead roles that sponsor visas on Migrate Mate?
Yes. Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for employers willing to sponsor work visas, so you are not sifting through postings from companies that only hire U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Browsing Platform Engineering Lead roles on Migrate Mate surfaces employers already familiar with H-1B, E-3, and green card sponsorship for senior engineering positions.
Is green card sponsorship realistic for a Platform Engineering Lead?
It is realistic, particularly at larger companies with established immigration programs. The EB-2 category covers positions requiring advanced degrees or exceptional ability, and senior platform engineering roles often meet that bar. Employers typically initiate PERM labor certification after two to three years of H-1B employment. Indian and Chinese nationals face significantly longer waits due to per-country backlog limits, so timing matters.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Platform Engineering Lead jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
