Target enterprise employers with ServiceNow partnerships
Large consulting firms and Fortune 500 companies with official ServiceNow Partner status file H-1B petitions regularly. These employers have established immigration infrastructure, making the sponsorship process faster and more predictable than smaller shops.
Get certified before applying
A Certified System Administrator or Certified Application Developer credential signals specialized expertise USCIS looks for in specialty occupation petitions. Certifications also differentiate your application when employers are weighing sponsorship costs against candidate value.
Frame your degree in terms of the role requirements
Computer science, information systems, and software engineering degrees map directly to ServiceNow roles. Make this connection explicit in your resume and cover letter so employers see that your H-1B petition carries a low approval risk.
Prioritize employers who have filed H-1B petitions before
Companies with no prior H-1B history face steeper administrative hurdles. Employers who regularly sponsor can move faster, have preferred immigration attorneys on retainer, and understand LCA filing timelines that first-time sponsors frequently underestimate.
Highlight platform-specific experience in your application
Employers justify H-1B sponsorship partly by demonstrating the role requires specialized knowledge. Detailing experience with specific ServiceNow modules, scripting, or integrations strengthens both your candidacy and the employer's specialty occupation argument to USCIS.
Browse Migrate Mate to find roles explicitly open to sponsorship
Most job postings don't advertise visa sponsorship availability upfront. Migrate Mate filters specifically for employers willing to sponsor, saving you from applying to roles where sponsorship was never an option before you invested time in the process.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a ServiceNow Software Engineer role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes. ServiceNow Software Engineer roles consistently qualify as specialty occupations because they require at minimum a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a closely related field. USCIS approves H-1B visa petitions for these roles regularly, particularly when the petition documents platform-specific technical requirements like scripting, API integrations, or custom application development within the ServiceNow ecosystem.
Which visa types do employers most commonly use to sponsor ServiceNow Software Engineers?
H-1B is by far the most common visa for this role. Australians may qualify for the E-3 visa, which skips the lottery entirely and allows direct consular processing. Canadians and Mexicans can explore the TN visa under the software engineer category. L-1B is an option if you're transferring internally from a foreign office of a multinational employer already running ServiceNow.
Does my degree field need to match the ServiceNow role exactly?
It needs to be in a directly related field, not necessarily an exact match. Computer science, software engineering, management information systems, and information technology all support ServiceNow petitions well. A business administration degree alone is unlikely to suffice. If your degree field is borderline, combining it with ServiceNow certifications and years of platform-specific experience strengthens the specialty occupation argument considerably.
How do I find ServiceNow Software Engineer jobs where employers are actually willing to sponsor visas?
Standard job boards rarely surface sponsorship willingness upfront. Migrate Mate is built specifically for this problem, filtering roles by employers open to visa sponsorship so you're not guessing. Focus your search on consulting firms with ServiceNow partner status and large enterprises running ITSM platforms, as these employers sponsor most frequently and have the immigration infrastructure to move efficiently.
Can I switch employers mid-H-1B if I'm already sponsored as a ServiceNow engineer?
Yes, through H-1B portability. If you've been in H-1B status for at least 180 days and your new employer files an H-1B transfer petition before your current status expires, you can typically start the new job as soon as the petition is filed, not just after approval. The new employer files a fresh I-129 with an LCA specific to the new position and work location.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Servicenow Software Engineer jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
