Radiation Therapist Jobs in USA with Visa Sponsorship
Radiation therapists face strong visa sponsorship prospects due to healthcare workforce shortages. The role typically qualifies for H-1B visa, TN visa (Canadians/Mexicans), and EB-2/EB-3 green card paths. Most positions require completion of an accredited radiation therapy program and state licensure, which aligns well with specialty occupation requirements. For detailed occupation requirements, see the O*NET profile.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Radiation Therapist Jobs
Target cancer centers and large hospital systems
Major cancer treatment facilities like MD Anderson, Memorial Sloan Kettering, and Mayo Clinic regularly sponsor visas. They have established immigration processes and understand the critical need for qualified radiation therapists in their workforce.
Emphasize your specialized training credentials
Highlight completion of JRCERT-accredited programs, ARRT certification, and any specialized certifications in IMRT, IGRT, or stereotactic radiosurgery. These credentials strengthen your specialty occupation case for H-1B petitions significantly.
Consider rural and underserved areas first
Rural hospitals and community cancer centers often struggle to fill radiation therapist positions. They may be more willing to sponsor visas and could qualify for expedited processing through certain healthcare shortage programs.
Leverage your clinical rotation network
If you completed clinical rotations at U.S. facilities, those connections can be invaluable. Supervisors who know your work quality are more likely to advocate for visa sponsorship with their employers.
Prepare for state licensing requirements early
Each state has different licensing requirements for radiation therapists. Research and begin the licensing process early, as some employers prefer candidates who can start immediately upon visa approval rather than waiting for licensure.
Document your patient care experience thoroughly
Maintain detailed records of your clinical experience, treatment techniques mastered, and patient volume handled. This documentation supports both visa petitions and demonstrates your readiness to contribute immediately to U.S. healthcare teams.

Find Radiation Therapist JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Do radiation therapists qualify for H-1B visa sponsorship?
Yes, radiation therapists typically qualify for H-1B visas as the role requires specialized education and training in radiation therapy. You need completion of an accredited radiation therapy program (usually 1-4 years post-high school) and ARRT certification. The specialized nature of operating linear accelerators and treatment planning systems supports the specialty occupation requirement.
Can international radiation therapists use TN visa status?
Canadian and Mexican radiation therapists can qualify for TN status, but it requires careful documentation. The role must be classified under "Medical Technologist" category, and you need a degree or diploma from an accredited program plus relevant certifications. State licensing requirements can complicate TN applications, so H-1B may be more straightforward.
How to find Radiation Therapist jobs with visa sponsorship?
To find Radiation Therapist jobs with visa sponsorship, use Migrate Mate, which specializes in connecting international healthcare professionals with sponsoring employers. Focus on hospitals, cancer treatment centers, and medical facilities that commonly sponsor H-1B, EB-2, or EB-3 visas for qualified radiation therapists. Many healthcare systems actively recruit internationally due to ongoing shortages in specialized medical roles.
What degree requirements do employers expect for visa sponsorship?
Most employers require completion of an accredited radiation therapy program, which can be a certificate, associate degree, or bachelor's degree depending on the program. ARRT certification is typically mandatory. International credentials need evaluation through agencies like CGFNS or WES to demonstrate equivalency to U.S. standards for visa purposes.
How long does green card sponsorship typically take for radiation therapists?
Radiation therapists usually qualify for EB-2 (advanced degree) or EB-3 (skilled worker) categories. The PERM labor certification process takes 12-24 months, followed by I-140 petition processing. For most countries, total timeline is 3-5 years, though Indians and Chinese nationals face longer backlogs due to per-country limits.
Are there visa advantages for radiation therapists in shortage areas?
While radiation therapy isn't on the Department of Labor's Schedule A shortage list, many rural and underserved areas struggle to fill these positions. This can strengthen your case for expedited labor certification and may make employers more willing to sponsor. Some states offer expedited licensing for healthcare professionals in shortage areas.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Radiation Therapist jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
