Target employers mid-migration
Companies actively migrating from SAP ECC to S/4HANA have the strongest sponsorship incentive. They need specialists now and can't wait years for the H-1B lottery. Focus your search on firms that announced S/4HANA projects in the past 18 months.
Lead with your module depth
Employers sponsor for specificity, not general SAP experience. Clearly identifying your primary module, whether FICO, MM, SD, PP, or another, signals you fill a hard-to-source gap, which makes sponsorship much easier for hiring managers to justify internally.
Use consulting firms as your entry point
Big consulting firms like Deloitte, Accenture, and IBM sponsor SAP talent at scale and have established immigration workflows. They're often faster to sponsor than end-user companies, especially for candidates earlier in their S/4HANA career.
Certifications strengthen the specialty occupation case
SAP Certified Application Associate or Professional credentials directly support the H-1B specialty occupation requirement. USCIS officers reviewing SAP petitions respond well to certifications that demonstrate the degree-level expertise the role demands.
Negotiate cap-exempt roles if you qualify
Universities, nonprofits, and affiliated research institutions are H-1B cap-exempt, meaning no lottery. Some large healthcare systems running SAP S/4HANA qualify. If you're open to these sectors, you can start any time of year without waiting for April.
Document project scope in your resume
Quantify the scale of implementations you've supported, such as number of users, countries, or business units affected. USCIS scrutinizes SAP roles closely, and concrete project evidence demonstrates the complexity that justifies a degree-level specialty occupation classification.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does an SAP S/4HANA job qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, SAP S/4HANA roles consistently qualify as specialty occupations when the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field like computer science, information systems, or business administration. USCIS has approved thousands of H-1B visa petitions for SAP consultants and analysts. The key is that the job description must specify a degree requirement in a relevant discipline, not just any bachelor's degree.
What visa categories are most commonly used to sponsor SAP S/4HANA professionals?
H-1B is the primary visa for SAP S/4HANA professionals already in the U.S. or transferring from abroad. L-1B is a strong option if you're currently employed by a multinational that uses SAP and wants to transfer you to a U.S. office, as it requires demonstrating specialized knowledge of the company's SAP environment. Australians may also qualify for the E-3 visa, which has no lottery and renews indefinitely.
How competitive is H-1B sponsorship for SAP S/4HANA roles compared to general IT jobs?
SAP S/4HANA sponsorship is more straightforward than many general IT roles because the specialty occupation argument is well-established and employers have strong business justification. The H-1B lottery remains the main obstacle, not the petition itself. Consulting firms that sponsor SAP talent at volume have refined petition language that holds up under USCIS scrutiny, giving their candidates an advantage over smaller employers filing for the first time.
What degree does an employer typically require to sponsor an SAP S/4HANA visa?
Most employers require a bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, accounting, finance, or supply chain management, depending on the module. For FICO roles, a finance or accounting degree is often preferred. For technical S/4HANA development, computer science or engineering is standard. If your degree is in an adjacent field, relevant SAP certifications and documented work history can support the specialty occupation case.
Where can I find SAP S/4HANA jobs that explicitly offer visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lists SAP S/4HANA positions from employers with verified sponsorship history, so you're not wasting time on roles where sponsorship is vague or unlikely. Filtering by confirmed sponsorship intent is especially important in SAP, where many postings come from staffing agencies that can't sponsor directly. Browsing Migrate Mate lets you focus on direct employers and consulting firms with established H-1B track records.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Sap S 4hana jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
