Target companies with a CRM or RevOps tech stack
Companies running Salesforce, HubSpot, or custom revenue stacks almost always need GTM Engineers long-term. That dependency translates into willingness to sponsor visas, because replacing a deeply integrated engineer mid-stack is costly and disruptive.
Emphasize the specialty occupation case in your application
H-1B approval hinges on proving your role requires a specific bachelor's degree. GTM Engineers with a CS or software engineering background have a stronger case than those coming from a pure sales or marketing path, so frame your credentials accordingly.
Document your integration and automation work explicitly
USCIS reviewers look for technical depth. Listing specific APIs you've built, automation workflows you've architected, and engineering tools you've owned strengthens the argument that your role qualifies as a specialty occupation rather than a generalist sales-ops position.
Prioritize Series B and later startups over early-stage companies
Visa sponsorship requires legal resources and HR infrastructure that most pre-Series B companies lack. Companies that have raised growth rounds typically have immigration counsel on retainer and a clear process for sponsoring engineers already in place.
Engage immigration counsel before accepting an offer
GTM Engineer is an emerging title, and USCIS doesn't always classify it consistently. Having an immigration attorney review your offer letter, job description, and degree before you sign prevents surprises during the I-129 petition review process.
Use the O-1A as a backup if H-1B lottery selection fails
GTM Engineers who have led major product launches, presented at industry conferences, or contributed to published engineering work may qualify for O-1A extraordinary ability status. It has no lottery, no cap, and processes on a rolling basis throughout the year.

Find Gtm Engineer JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does a GTM Engineer role qualify for H-1B visa sponsorship?
Yes, in most cases. GTM Engineer positions that involve software development, API integration, and systems architecture typically meet the H-1B specialty occupation standard, which requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific technical field. Roles that lean heavily toward sales strategy with minimal engineering work are harder to approve, so the job description wording matters significantly.
What degree do I need to get sponsored as a GTM Engineer?
A bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or information systems is the strongest foundation. Some employers will support sponsorship for candidates with degrees in business information technology or related fields if the role is sufficiently technical. A pure business or marketing degree without a technical component makes the specialty occupation argument much harder to make during USCIS review.
How do I find employers actively sponsoring GTM Engineers?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can browse GTM Engineer roles where employers have already indicated they'll sponsor. This saves considerable time compared to applying broadly and discovering sponsorship status late in the process, often after multiple interview rounds.
Can I transfer my H-1B to a new employer if I switch GTM Engineer jobs?
Yes. H-1B portability allows you to start working for a new sponsoring employer as soon as they file a transfer petition, without waiting for approval, as long as your current H-1B is valid and you haven't accrued unlawful presence. The new employer must file a new I-129 with an updated Labor Condition Application reflecting the new role and work location.
Are GTM Engineer H-1B petitions frequently hit with RFEs?
Requests for Evidence are more common for GTM Engineer roles than for traditional software engineering titles because USCIS officers may not immediately recognize the classification. Petitions that include detailed job descriptions emphasizing technical duties, API work, system design responsibilities, and a clear degree requirement for the position tend to receive fewer RFEs than those using vague or sales-adjacent language.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Gtm Engineer jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
