About us:
One team. Global challenges. Infinite opportunities. At Viasat, we’re on a mission to deliver connections with the capacity to change the world. For more than 35 years, Viasat has helped shape how consumers, businesses, governments and militaries around the globe communicate. We’re looking for people who think big, act fearlessly, and create an inclusive environment that drives positive impact to join our team.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
We’re seeking an experienced Technical Product Owner to lead and evolve our 3GPP Core Network capability, with a focus on NB-IoT Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN) and 5G NR use cases. This role requires hands-on experience with mobile core technologies, strong systems-level understanding of 3GPP architecture, and the ability to drive a roadmap that advances our satellite-based mobility strategy.
We’re looking for someone who can bridge network engineering, standards, and operational excellence—enabling mobile core capabilities that not only meet 3GPP and GSMA interoperability standards, but also deliver a highly optimized, reliable experience for NTN terminals and global customers.
The day-to-day:
- Own and manage the global product roadmap for NB-IoT NTN and 5G NR NTN Core Network capabilities.
- Define and prioritize technical requirements that enhance NTN performance, roaming behaviors, attach procedures, mobility, and service continuity for satellite-enabled devices.
- Embed the end-to-end NTN device and service journey into solution design to ensure seamless interaction between RAN-NTN, satellite systems, and 3GPP Core.
- Execute against architectural governance, performance KPIs, and service-level expectations for large-scale NTN deployments across multiple geographies and regulatory regions.
- Engage as a key participant in the integration strategy between core systems and upstream/downstream elements, including gNB-NTN, RAN Intelligent Controllers, OSS/BSS, and cloud-native orchestration platforms.
- Oversee vendor relationships, licensing, and partner engagement related to 3GPP Core (e.g., AMF/SMF/UPF vendors, network function suppliers).
- Collaborate with systems engineering to map 3GPP Release 17/18/19 NTN features into product capabilities and deployment milestones.
- Provide operational insight, performance trend analysis, and recommendations for scaling NTN connectivity, optimizing latency, and improving signaling efficiency.
- Support security, audit, and compliance requirements including 3GPP security architecture, lawful intercept, and data governance.
- Guide a distributed development and operations engineering team to deliver high-availability, cloud-native core solutions optimized for satellite propagation and mobility models.
- Drive ongoing product excellence through iterative refinement, customer feedback, and continuous alignment with emerging 3GPP standards.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
- 5+ years as a Technical Product Owner or technical lead within mobile core networks, preferably including 3GPP-based IoT or NTN solutions.
- Strong understanding of 3GPP Core Architecture and related service-based interfaces.
- Experience with NB-IoT, LTE-M, or 5G NR, and an understanding of how these technologies adapt for NTN.
- Knowledge of network security fundamentals, SDLC, Agile delivery frameworks, and DevOps processes.
- Ability to build strong cross-functional partnerships and deliver solutions aligned with product strategy, standards compliance, and global regulatory requirements.
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills, including ability to prepare materials for executive audiences.
- Proven experience leading large-scale, enterprise or carrier-grade network projects.
- General understanding of cloud-native deployments (Kubernetes, microservices, CI/CD).
- BA/BS in EE/CS, telecommunications, networking, or equivalent experience.
- Up to 10% travel.
WHAT WILL HELP YOU ON THE JOB:
- Prior hands-on experience with LTE/5G Core mobility architectures.
- Proven ability to translate complex 3GPP standards (e.g., Releases 17–19 NTN features) into real-world, scalable product capabilities.
- Strong understanding of end-to-end enterprise and carrier architecture, data governance, and the ability to integrate AI-driven insights into network performance and operations.
- Goal-oriented mindset with the ability to prioritize and make trade-offs in a dynamic, evolving technical environment.

Find Technical Product Owner JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Do Technical Product Owners qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
Yes, Technical Product Owners typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship as a specialty occupation. The role requires specialized knowledge in product management, technical systems, and business strategy. USCIS generally recognizes that effective product ownership demands expertise that comes from formal education or equivalent experience in relevant fields.
What degree do I need for Technical Product Owner visa sponsorship?
Most employers require a bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, business administration, or a related field. Some accept equivalent experience using the 3-for-1 rule (three years of experience for one year of education). Product management certifications can strengthen your case but rarely substitute for degree requirements.
How do I prove specialty occupation requirements for this role?
Document your technical product management experience, including roadmap development, cross-functional leadership, and data-driven decision making. Highlight work with technical specifications, API integrations, or system architecture. The complexity of modern product ownership helps establish the specialized knowledge requirement for H-1B approval.
Which companies sponsor Technical Product Owners for visas?
Technology companies, SaaS platforms, fintech firms, and product-driven organizations commonly sponsor Technical Product Owners. Look for companies with established product management teams and international hiring patterns. Startups may be less likely to sponsor due to cost and complexity, while larger tech companies have established sponsorship programs.
Can I transfer from another visa to H-1B as a Technical Product Owner?
Yes, many Technical Product Owners successfully transfer from F-1 OPT, L-1, or other visa categories to H-1B status. The key is demonstrating that your role requires specialized knowledge and that your background qualifies you for the position. Internal transfers from other roles can be particularly effective if you can show product management responsibilities.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Technical Product Owner jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
How to find Technical Product Owner jobs with visa sponsorship?
To find Technical Product Owner positions with visa sponsorship, use Migrate Mate, which specializes in connecting international talent with sponsoring employers.
