Wellness Manager Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a wellness manager in California?
Most wellness manager roles in California require a bachelor's degree in public health, kinesiology, health promotion, or a related field, though many senior positions prefer a master's degree. California does not issue a state-specific wellness manager license, but employers consistently require nationally recognized credentials such as the Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES), awarded through the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, or the Certified Wellness Practitioner (CWP) through the National Wellness Institute.
Which companies hire wellness managers in California?
California wellness manager roles are posted by PNC Financial Services, The People Concern, and Alo and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. California's large tech campuses, integrated health systems, and self-insured public employers create especially consistent demand for in-house wellness leadership.
Which California cities have the most wellness manager jobs?
Los Angeles, San Francisco, and San Jose have the most wellness manager openings in California. Los Angeles and San Francisco generate the largest share of postings because of their concentration of Fortune 500 corporate campuses and major academic medical centers, while San Diego's biotech corridor and UCSD Health system drive demand in that market.
Are there remote wellness manager jobs in California?
Yes, but they're less common than in fully desk-based roles because wellness managers often oversee on-site programming, vendor appointments, and in-person health screenings. About 13% of wellness manager openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, with the remote-eligible work concentrating in benefits administration, program strategy, and data analysis rather than direct delivery.
How can I get hired as a wellness manager in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into a wellness coordinator or health educator role first, then building toward a manager title. Large California health systems like Kaiser Permanente and Sutter Health post community health educator and population health coordinator openings that accept candidates without prior management experience. County public health departments across Los Angeles, Alameda, and San Diego Counties hire entry-level health program assistants. Earning the CHES credential while in an adjacent role such as HR benefits specialist, occupational health technician, or fitness coordinator strengthens a candidacy meaningfully for California employers.
Where can I find and apply to wellness manager jobs in California?
You can find and apply to wellness manager jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search for roles that match your experience level and specialty, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
