Accounting Manager Jobs in San Diego: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a accounting manager job in San Diego?
Focus your search on San Diego's dominant hiring sectors: defense and government contracting in Kearny Mesa, biotech and life sciences in Sorrento Valley and Torrey Pines, and hospitality and real estate firms Downtown. Candidates with experience in cost accounting, multi-entity consolidations, or government contract compliance stand out. Networking through the San Diego chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants also opens doors with mid-size local firms.
Which companies hire accounting managers in San Diego?
Companies currently hiring accounting managers in San Diego include CBIZ, Seasats, and Kurz USA, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. San Diego's employer mix skews toward defense primes, biotech firms, hotel groups, and regional financial services companies, so opportunities exist at both publicly traded corporations and growing private companies.
Are there remote accounting manager jobs in San Diego?
Yes, though accounting manager roles are less remote-friendly than purely analytical positions because they often require overseeing on-site staff and coordinating closely with operations. About 50% of accounting manager openings tied to San Diego are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, with hybrid schedules being most common. Financial reporting and budgeting duties tend to be the tasks most easily handled off-site.
How can I get a accounting manager job in San Diego with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving up from a senior accountant role within San Diego's biotech or defense sectors, where structured finance teams promote internally. Target mid-size life sciences companies in Sorrento Valley that often fill accounting manager roles from within rather than hiring externally. Building experience with government contract accounting, FAR compliance, or consolidations makes candidates significantly more competitive for that first management title locally.
Which industries hire the most accounting managers in San Diego?
Most accounting manager openings in San Diego sit in Accounting & Auditing and Consulting & Professional Services, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. San Diego's concentration of defense contractors, biotech companies, and hospitality groups creates consistent demand across those sectors, each requiring specialized accounting oversight tied to their distinct regulatory and reporting environments.
