INTRODUCTION
Who We Are
Notion is the collaborative AI workspace where teams and agents think together. We're building one place where your knowledge, projects, meetings, and AI tools live side by side, so work is faster, clearer, and less fragmented. Millions of individuals, small teams, and large companies run their work on Notion. Notinos (our employees) are customer zero in bringing this future of work to life. We care about craft, building things that last, and the belief that great work is still fundamentally human. Our goal isn’t to ship the next feature. Each and every team of Notinos is working to set the standard for how humans work together in the AI era. From building a business’s system of record to making and managing AI agents to automating away the busy work, we care deeply about giving our customers more time for their life’s work.
ABOUT THE ROLE
You’ll support the monthly revenue close and ASC 606 revenue accounting for a defined area of our business, with a focus on usage-based and AI-credit revenue. This role exists because we’re scaling quickly and need more dedicated support to keep revenue recognition accurate and audit-ready as complexity increases. What’s different at Notion: you’ll help build an AI-native finance function, and you’ll work at the intersection of billing systems, product usage, and accounting judgment—so your work directly impacts how fast we can launch and iterate. This role can be based in either San Francisco or New York City. We work from our offices on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays (our Anchor Days) because we do our best thinking and building together in person. We’re looking for someone who’s excited to work alongside the team during those days.
WHAT YOU'LL ACHIEVE
- Big bet: Help make the close faster and cleaner — your accurate, on-time work keeps revenue accounting from becoming the bottleneck.
- By day 90, you’ll support month-end close for a defined rev-rec area with clean, audit-ready support.
- By day 90, you’ll use AI as leverage: partner with the team to generate and validate SQL queries, automate variance checks, and build a lightweight agent/workflow that flags discrepancies before they surprise the close.
- By the end of year 1, you’ll produce reliable, well-documented reconciliations and audit support, and contribute to SOX/control documentation.
SKILLS YOU'LL NEED TO BRING
- 3+ years of progressive accounting experience, including Big 4 public accounting.
- Working knowledge of ASC 606, with a desire to deepen your judgment on subscription + usage-based revenue and contract changes.
- Comfort with SQL (or eagerness to ramp quickly) — you can query datasets to investigate discrepancies.
- Demonstrated ability to run detailed reconciliations, investigate breaks, and land on root cause with clear, audit-ready support.
- Strong ownership and attention to detail: you reliably hit close deadlines without trading off quality.
- AI fluency in practice: you actively use AI tools to improve the quality and reliability of your analyses, checks, and close workflows (not just speed).
NICE TO HAVES
- Experience with NetSuite (ARM), Salesforce CPQ, Stripe, or Metronome.
- Exposure to usage-based or consumption pricing and the billing/rev-rec complexity it creates.
- SOX / internal controls experience.
COMPENSATION
Notion is committed to providing highly competitive cash compensation, equity, and benefits. The compensation offered for this role will be based on multiple factors such as location, the role’s scope and complexity, and the candidate’s experience and expertise, and may vary from the range provided below. For roles based in San Francisco, the estimated base salary range for this role is $106,000 – $119,000 per year.
A Note on AI
You don’t need deep AI expertise for every role, but we do expect every Notino to be intellectually curious, drawn to tinkering and discovery, and excited to use AI as a real collaborator in their work. For some roles, AI fluency is a core requirement — when that’s the case, we'll say so explicitly in the qualifications. People who thrive here don’t treat AI as a novelty. They use it to think better, and make their work easier for others to build on.

How do I get a accounting manager job in San Francisco?
San Francisco accounting manager roles cluster most heavily in technology companies in SoMa and Mission Bay, financial services firms in the Financial District, and biotech employers around the Embarcadero. Candidates who stand out locally typically combine a CPA with hands-on close experience at a high-growth or publicly traded company. Familiarity with the audit cycles and reporting standards common in VC-backed tech or life sciences firms gives a real competitive edge in this market.
Which companies hire accounting managers in San Francisco?
Employers hiring accounting managers in San Francisco right now include Airwallex, OpenAI, and Anthropic, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. San Francisco's mix of publicly traded tech companies, pre-IPO startups, and large financial institutions means demand comes from a wide range of employer types and sizes.
Are there remote accounting manager jobs in San Francisco?
Yes, though accounting manager roles are moderately remote-friendly since many require hands-on involvement in month-end close, audits, and cross-functional collaboration. About 45% of accounting manager openings tied to San Francisco are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with hybrid schedules far more common than fully remote. Strategic and analytical responsibilities, such as financial reporting and systems oversight, tend to be the most amenable to remote work in San Francisco-based roles.
How can I get a accounting manager job in San Francisco with little or no experience?
The most realistic path is moving up from a senior accountant role inside a San Francisco technology company or financial services firm, where internal promotions to accounting manager are common as companies scale.
