Actuarial Consultant Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a actuarial consultant in Texas?
Becoming an actuarial consultant in Texas starts with a bachelor's degree in actuarial science, mathematics, or statistics, followed by passing preliminary exams through the Society of Actuaries or Casualty Actuarial Society. Texas does not issue a state actuarial license, but employers expect candidates to be actively pursuing Associate or Fellow credentials. Most Texas consulting firms hire candidates with at least two preliminary exams passed and advance them as they complete additional exams on the job.
How much do actuarial consultants make in Texas?
Actuarial consultants in Texas earn a median of about $105,020 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $62,870 for the lowest 10% to over $189,320 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire actuarial consultants in Texas?
Employers hiring actuarial consultants in Texas right now include CVS Health, Gallagher, and NFP, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of large insurance carriers, employee benefits firms, and independent consulting practices makes it one of the deeper actuarial job markets in the South.
Which Texas cities have the most actuarial consultant jobs?
Dallas, Irving, and Austin have the most actuarial consultant openings in Texas. Houston leads because of its dense concentration of energy-sector risk management, property and casualty carriers, and large benefits consulting offices, while Dallas and Austin draw demand from corporate headquarters, regional insurance operations, and a growing base of health insurance and insurtech employers.
Are there remote actuarial consultant jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than most fields, because actuarial work is almost entirely analytical and document-based. About 20% of actuarial consultant openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how well the role translates to distributed work. Pricing, reserving, and data modeling assignments are the most commonly offered as fully remote, while client-facing engagement roles tend to require at least occasional in-office presence.
How can I get hired as a actuarial consultant in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is landing an actuarial analyst role at a Texas-based carrier or consulting firm while actively sitting for preliminary exams. Large Texas employers such as USAA in San Antonio and Milliman's Dallas office run structured analyst programs designed for recent graduates with one or two exams completed. Candidates transitioning from adjacent quantitative roles in data science, underwriting, or financial analysis also find a clear path in, especially with a strong exam record and demonstrated modeling skills in R or Python.
Where can I find and apply to actuarial consultant jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to actuarial consultant jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings updated regularly. Search the listings to see roles that match your exam progress, specialty, and preferred metro, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
