Application Development Manager Jobs in Michigan: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a application development manager in Michigan?
Application development manager is not a state-licensed role in Michigan, so there is no Michigan-specific exam or credential board. The standard path is a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or software engineering, followed by several years as a software developer or team lead. Michigan employers commonly favor candidates who have earned a PMP or Certified Scrum Master credential and can demonstrate hands-on delivery experience in automotive, healthcare, or financial services technology.
How much do application development managers make in Michigan?
Application development managers in Michigan earn a median of about $163,760 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $99,270 for the lowest 10% to over $232,870 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire application development managers in Michigan?
Employers hiring application development managers in Michigan right now include General Motors (GM), PHINIA, and Yazaki, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Michigan's concentration of automotive OEMs, large insurance carriers, and regional health systems means hiring is spread across both metro Detroit and mid-Michigan corridors.
Which Michigan cities have the most application development manager jobs?
Auburn Hills, Canton, and Warren account for the most application development manager openings in Michigan. Metro Detroit dominates because of the headquarters density of automotive technology companies, fintech firms, and large health systems, while Ann Arbor's university and research ecosystem and Grand Rapids' growing mid-market business sector each generate consistent demand outside the southeast corner of the state.
Are there remote application development manager jobs in Michigan?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 100% of application development manager openings tied to Michigan are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how much of the work centers on code review, sprint planning, and stakeholder calls rather than on-site presence. Strategic oversight, vendor management, and architecture review are the responsibilities most commonly performed fully remotely.
How can I get hired as a application development manager in Michigan with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into a team lead or technical lead role first, then stepping into management once you have direct reports or project ownership on your record. Michigan employers like Ford, Stellantis, and Henry Ford Health System run associate program tracks and rotational technology programs that place strong individual contributors into people-management pipelines. Building a portfolio of delivered projects and earning a Certified Scrum Master or PMP credential meaningfully strengthens a candidacy before you have formal management tenure.
Where can I find and apply to application development manager jobs in Michigan?
You can find and apply to application development manager jobs in Michigan on Migrate Mate, which lists current Michigan openings updated regularly. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience level and preferred location, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
