Asset Manager Jobs in Houston: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an asset manager job in Houston?
Focus on Houston's dominant hiring sectors: commercial real estate, energy infrastructure, and private wealth management. Employers in the Galleria-Uptown corridor, downtown high-rises, and the Energy Corridor actively recruit candidates with portfolio analysis or property operations experience. A CFA designation or CPA credential stands out locally, and familiarity with oil-and-gas asset valuation or industrial real estate gives applicants a clear edge over generalists.
Which companies hire asset managers in Houston?
Employers hiring asset managers in Houston right now include KBR, Newrez, and OxyChem, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Houston's hiring base ranges from global energy firms and real estate investment trusts to regional private equity shops and wealth management boutiques, many headquartered along the Galleria corridor or Downtown.
Are there remote asset manager jobs in Houston?
Yes, though availability depends heavily on the role type: analytical and reporting-focused positions are more remote-friendly, while hands-on property or infrastructure management roles typically require on-site presence. About 50% of asset manager openings tied to Houston are remote or hybrid as of August 2026. Roles centered on financial modeling, investor reporting, and portfolio oversight are the most likely to offer hybrid arrangements locally.
How can I get an asset manager job in Houston with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Houston is through analyst or coordinator roles at real estate investment trusts, energy-sector asset management firms, or regional family offices, many of which post junior openings in the Galleria and Downtown districts. Internships with commercial real estate developers or commodity trading companies provide hands-on portfolio exposure that translates directly. A finance or accounting degree from a Houston-area university, combined with Excel and Argus proficiency, is what local employers most commonly screen for at the entry level.
Which industries hire the most asset managers in Houston?
Houston asset manager roles concentrate in Energy, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Houston's position as the U.S. energy capital and one of the largest commercial real estate markets in the South explains why those sectors generate a disproportionate share of local openings year-round.
