Sports Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a sports professional in Texas?
The path depends on the specific sports role you are targeting. Athletic trainers in Texas must hold a license from the Texas Advisory Board of Athletic Trainers, which requires an accredited degree and passing the Board of Certification exam. Coaches at public schools typically need a Texas teaching certificate with a coaching endorsement through the Texas Education Agency. Sports management and operations roles generally require a relevant bachelor's degree and direct experience with a team, athletic department, or sports business.
Which companies hire sports professionals in Texas?
Employers hiring sports professionals in Texas right now include Academy Sports + Outdoors, Pflugerville Independent School District, and Houston Methodist, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of professional franchises, major university athletic programs, and large regional sports media outlets makes it one of the deepest hiring markets for sports careers in the country.
Which Texas cities have the most sports jobs?
Katy, Houston, and San Antonio have the most sports job openings in Texas. Dallas-Fort Worth's density of professional franchises and corporate sports sponsorship teams drives the largest share of listings, while Houston's major league clubs and Houston-area universities generate consistent demand, and Austin's fast-growing sports business and media scene has expanded hiring significantly in recent years.
Are there remote sports jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they are limited. Most sports roles in Texas require on-site presence for game-day operations, coaching, athletic training, and facility management. About 0% of sports openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions are concentrated in sports media, content production, analytics, and marketing functions where the work is desk-based rather than court- or field-side.
How can I get hired as a sports professional in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is an internship or graduate assistantship with a Texas university athletic department, where programs at schools such as the University of Texas, Texas A&M, and Baylor regularly onboard candidates without professional experience. Entry-level roles in game-day operations, equipment management, or sports communications are common first steps. Completing a Texas Athletic Trainers licensure or earning a coaching endorsement through the Texas Education Agency gives candidates a credential edge for roles that might otherwise require experience.
Where can I find and apply to sports jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to sports jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings across professional teams, collegiate programs, sports media, and related organizations. Find the roles that fit your background and apply directly through each listing.
