Assistant Director Jobs in Minneapolis: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a assistant director job in Minneapolis?
The strongest path is targeting Minneapolis's dominant sectors: large health systems in the Medical District, colleges and universities near the University of Minnesota campus, and the dense nonprofit corridor along Nicollet Mall and the Near North side. Candidates who combine operational management experience with familiarity in one of these sectors move fastest. A demonstrated record of leading teams and managing budgets in a Minneapolis-area organization is the clearest differentiator in this market.
Which companies hire assistant directors in Minneapolis?
Companies currently hiring assistant directors in Minneapolis include Lifespark, Ebenezer, and Augsburg University, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Minneapolis draws a mix of major health systems, regional universities, financial services firms, and national nonprofits with headquarters or significant operations in the city.
Are there remote assistant director jobs in Minneapolis?
Yes, though availability depends heavily on the sector, since assistant director roles in healthcare, education, and operations typically require on-site presence. About 0% of assistant director openings tied to Minneapolis are remote or hybrid as of August 2026. The roles most likely to offer flexibility are those in communications, policy, and program administration rather than facilities or direct-service management.
How can I get a assistant director job in Minneapolis with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Minneapolis is through coordinator or program manager roles at mid-size nonprofits in the Phillips or Whittier neighborhoods, or through administrative roles at one of the University of Minnesota's many departments. Employers in Minneapolis's arts and social services sectors regularly promote internally, so lateral moves within an organization often open the door faster than applying externally. Volunteering with a Minneapolis-area board or committee in your target sector builds visibility with the hiring managers who fill these positions.
