Assistant Director Jobs in Philadelphia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a assistant director job in Philadelphia?
The strongest hiring in Philadelphia comes from its large academic medical centers, universities, and nonprofit sector, so candidates with experience in those environments have a clear edge. Roles in Center City and University City tend to be most competitive, while community-based organizations across neighborhoods like Germantown and North Philadelphia often have more accessible openings. Demonstrating cross-departmental leadership and familiarity with Philadelphia's civic and institutional culture helps candidates stand out.
Which companies hire assistant directors in Philadelphia?
Employers hiring assistant directors in Philadelphia right now include Thomas Jefferson University & Jefferson Health, CO-MHAR, and Marriott International, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Philadelphia's employer base skews heavily toward anchor institutions, including health systems, universities, and cultural organizations, many of which maintain large administrative and program leadership teams.
Are there remote assistant director jobs in Philadelphia?
Yes, though with limits: assistant director roles that involve direct program oversight, facilities, or in-person staff management are typically on-site, while those focused on communications, development, or policy work are more often remote or hybrid. About 43% of assistant director openings tied to Philadelphia are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, with the highest remote share in nonprofit development, higher education administration, and healthcare operations roles.
How can I get a assistant director job in Philadelphia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Philadelphia is through coordinator or manager roles at the city's large nonprofit organizations, hospital systems, or universities, which frequently promote internally into assistant director positions. Institutions in University City and the nonprofit corridor along Broad Street often hire program coordinators with the expectation of advancement. Volunteering with Philadelphia civic organizations and building connections through local professional associations can accelerate that path considerably.
