Job Description:
The Department of Medicine invites applications for the position of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor - Medical Director, Transplant Infectious Disease, with a primary focus on solid organ transplant recipients (kidney and pancreas transplantation).
In addition to providing exceptional patient care, this role involves leading multidisciplinary collaboration and overseeing protocols for infection prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. The position directs program development, quality improvement, and antimicrobial stewardship efforts while ensuring alignment with national standards. It also supports research, education, and mentorship within transplant infectious diseases.
Candidates must be board-certified in Infectious Diseases, with demonstrated expertise in transplant-related infections, strong leadership skills, and a commitment to high-quality, evidence-based care.
Position Highlights:
- Provide expert clinical care and consultation in the management of infectious diseases in solid organ transplant recipients (kidney and pancreas), including complex and high-risk cases.
- Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of protocols for infection prevention, diagnosis, and treatment in transplant populations.
- Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary transplant teams to ensure coordinated, high-quality care across the transplant continuum.
- Participate in multidisciplinary rounds, case reviews, and selection meetings, offering infectious diseases expertise to optimize patient outcomes.
- Direct and support research initiatives and quality improvement projects focused on transplant infectious diseases, including prevention strategies and vaccination efforts.
- Contribute to scholarly activity through publications and presentations at regional and national forums.
- Oversee infection prevention programs and ensure compliance with national guidelines, regulatory standards, and best practices.
- Lead or support antimicrobial stewardship and infection control initiatives specific to transplant and immunocompromised populations.
- Provide education and mentorship to physicians, trainees, pharmacists, and allied health professionals.
- Serve as a subject matter expert in institutional committees, educational forums, and professional meetings.
- Fulfill a balanced role encompassing clinical care, administrative leadership, research, and education, with appropriate institutional support and coverage.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution.
- ABIM Board certification in Infectious Diseases.
- Subspecialty training or fellowship in transplant infectious diseases or significant experience in the care of solid organ transplant patients with infectious disease complications.
- Expertise in managing infections in solid organ transplant recipients, including pre-transplant infection screening, post-transplant infectious complications, and long-term care of transplant recipients.
- Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills to work effectively with a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Proficiency in evidence-based practices for infectious disease management and infection control in transplant populations.
- Ability to educate medical staff, fellows, and residents.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to navigate complex clinical scenarios in a high-acuity environment.
