The Department of Surgery, Division of General Surgery at the University of Washington invites applications for a faculty position at the ranks of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Professor, without tenure (WOT), by reason of funding with an anticipated start date of Fall/Winter 2027. The successful candidate will be expected to support the department's commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and service in a diverse and inclusive academic community. The successful candidate will join our faculty on a full-time basis for a twelve-month appointment (3-year term renewable for Assistant Professor) beginning Fall/Winter 2027.

The position will be primarily based at the University of Washington Medical Center- Northwest (NW) and Montlake (ML) campuses. The position will provide acute general surgery consultation in the inpatient, urgent and elective outpatient, and emergency department. This position includes both emergency surgical call as well as elective general surgical practice. This position will work collaboratively with the General Surgery Division faculty across both campuses, UWMC-NW and UWMC-ML.

In addition to clinical practice, the position will participate in the education of surgical residents, medical students, and division fellows. The positions will be expected to develop an area of scholarly expertise, as expected of every faculty member, in consultation with the Division and Section Chiefs. Positive factors for consideration include advanced degree (e.g., MPH, PhD, or foreign equivalent). The University of Washington Medical Center is a nationally recognized academic medical center offering outstanding specialty and primary care. Commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination, the base salary range for this position will be:

• Assistant Professor, $31,584 - $33,334 per month ($379,008-$400,008 annually)
• Associate Professor, $36,250 - $38,334 per month ($435,000-$460,008 annually)
• Professor $41,000 - $43,750 per month ($492,000-$525,000 annually)

Other compensation associated with this position may include incentive through UWP. The total compensation ranges listed below represent total cash compensation potential and may include base salary, clinical productivity incentives, administrative stipends, and other applicable compensation associated with the position. Actual compensation will be commensurate with the selected candidate's experience, qualifications, clinical activity, academic responsibilities, and overall contributions.

Competitive estimated annual total compensation ranges are:

• Assistant Professor: $419,000-$450,000
• Associate Professor: $475,000 - $540,000
• Professor: $532,000 - $615,000

Qualifications

Applicants for this position must meet the following minimum qualifications:

• MD degree (or foreign equivalent)
• Track record of excellence in scientific inquiry as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications, innovation in education, quality improvement, and/or intramural/extramural funding
• Board eligibility (or foreign equivalent) by the American Board of Surgery
• Eligible for medical licensure in state of Washington
• In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
