Associate Attorney Jobs in Connecticut: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a associate attorney in Connecticut?
To become an associate attorney in Connecticut, you must earn a Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school and pass the Connecticut Bar Examination, administered by the Connecticut Bar Examining Committee. After passing, you apply for admission through the Connecticut Judicial Branch. Attorneys licensed in other states may qualify to waive in if they meet Connecticut's experience requirements. Most Connecticut firms also look for prior clinic, externship, or clerkship experience before making associate offers.
How much do associate attorneys make in Connecticut?
Associate attorneys in Connecticut earn a median of about $163,600 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $91,180 for the lowest 10% to over $342,970 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire associate attorneys in Connecticut?
Connecticut associate attorney roles are posted by Jobot, Wilson Elser, and Chartwell Law and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Connecticut's concentration of insurance carriers, financial services firms, and regional litigation boutiques means associate openings appear consistently across both in-house legal departments and full-service law firms.
Which Connecticut cities have the most associate attorney jobs?
Hartford, Stamford, and New Haven lead Connecticut for associate attorney openings. Hartford's role as the insurance capital of the country anchors significant in-house and outside counsel demand there, while Stamford draws corporate and financial services work given its proximity to New York, and New Haven benefits from its anchor institutions, regional litigation firms, and a strong pipeline from Yale Law School.
Are there remote associate attorney jobs in Connecticut?
Yes, but they're limited. Associate attorney work is heavily in-person by nature, involving court appearances, client meetings, and in-office collaboration with senior attorneys. About 41% of associate attorney openings tied to Connecticut are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, which is below the average for desk-based roles. Transactional and research-heavy practice areas such as corporate or intellectual property work are the most likely to offer hybrid arrangements.
How can I get hired as a associate attorney in Connecticut with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a summer associate program or a law clerk position at a Connecticut firm or court while you are still in law school or awaiting bar results. Large Connecticut employers such as Cigna and Travelers run formal legal internship and new-attorney programs, and Connecticut's Superior Court system hires judicial law clerks who often transition directly into associate roles. Pursuing admission to the Connecticut Bar early and gaining clinic experience in litigation or transactional work gives candidates a meaningful edge over those without it.
Where can I find and apply to associate attorney jobs in Connecticut?
You can find and apply to associate attorney jobs in Connecticut on Migrate Mate, which lists current Connecticut openings across law firms, insurance carriers, corporate legal departments, and government offices. Search the listings to find roles that match your practice area and experience level, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
