Attorney Jobs in Alabama: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a attorney in Alabama?
To practice law in Alabama you must earn a Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and pass the Alabama State Bar Examination, administered by the Alabama State Bar. After passing the bar, you complete a character and fitness review and take the attorney's oath before the Alabama Supreme Court. New attorneys must also complete the Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination and register for mandatory continuing legal education through the Alabama State Bar.
How much do attorneys make in Alabama?
Attorneys in Alabama earn a median of about $131,970 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $62,310 for the lowest 10% to over $249,090 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire attorneys in Alabama?
Companies currently hiring attorneys in Alabama include Jobot, Epic, and Parnall Law Firm, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Alabama's concentration of financial institutions, utility companies, and state government agencies means in-house and government legal roles are among the steadiest sources of attorney openings across the state.
Which Alabama cities have the most attorney jobs?
Birmingham, Mobile, and Huntsville account for the largest share of attorney openings in Alabama. Birmingham drives the most volume as the state's commercial and financial center, Montgomery generates steady demand through state government and regulatory agencies, and Mobile contributes openings tied to its port commerce, maritime law, and Gulf Coast litigation practices.
Are there remote attorney jobs in Alabama?
Yes, but they're less common than in many desk-based fields, since attorneys frequently need to appear in Alabama courts and conduct in-person client meetings. About 17% of attorney openings tied to Alabama are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting a modest but real share of the market. Contract review, compliance advisory, and transactional work tend to be the most remote-accessible practice areas.
How can I get hired as a attorney in Alabama with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a judicial clerkship with an Alabama circuit or federal district court judge, which builds credentials recognized by private firms and government offices alike. Large Alabama employers like the Attorney General's Office and Jefferson County government run structured programs that hire new law graduates into staff attorney and assistant attorney general roles. Paralegal or legal analyst experience at Alabama litigation firms also provides a strong bridge into associate positions, and completion of the Alabama State Bar exam remains the credential that opens every door.
Where can I find and apply to attorney jobs in Alabama?
