Attorney Jobs in Houston: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a attorney job in Houston?
Houston's attorney market is shaped by energy, healthcare, and large-scale commercial litigation, so candidates with experience in those sectors have the clearest path in. The Galleria corridor, Downtown's courthouse district, and the Energy Corridor are where most openings concentrate. Strong ties to local bar associations, a book of portable business, or a background in oil and gas transactions give candidates a real edge in this market.
Which companies hire attorneys in Houston?
Houston attorney roles are posted by Josephson Dunlap LLP, Thomas J. Henry Law, PLLC, and Aionios and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. The hiring mix includes major international law firms with Houston offices, in-house legal departments at energy companies and hospital systems, and regional boutiques focused on commercial real estate and financial services.
Are there remote attorney jobs in Houston?
Yes, though attorney work is among the less remote-friendly professions given courtroom appearances, client meetings, and document review requirements. About 55% of attorney openings tied to Houston are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, with the remote options skewing heavily toward contract drafting, compliance review, and in-house counsel roles at technology and financial services companies.
How can I get a attorney job in Houston with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Houston is a summer associate position or first-year associate role at one of the mid-size or large firms with offices Downtown or in the Galleria. Houston's energy and healthcare sectors also hire judicial law clerks and staff attorneys at lower experience thresholds. Demonstrating familiarity with Texas civil procedure and any exposure to energy or healthcare regulatory work meaningfully separates early-career candidates here.
Which industries hire the most attorneys in Houston?
The sectors hiring the most attorneys in Houston are Law & Legal Services, Government & Public Sector, and Healthcare & Medical Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Houston's position as the energy capital of the country and one of the largest medical center complexes in the world makes those two sectors the dominant drivers of in-house and law firm hiring locally.
