Automation Jobs in Sunnyvale: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an automation job in Sunnyvale?
The strongest path in Sunnyvale is targeting the city's semiconductor, defense electronics, and advanced manufacturing employers clustered around Moffett Park and the Lawrence Expressway corridor. Candidates with hands-on PLC programming, robotics integration, or test automation experience stand out most. Familiarity with the tools and protocols common in high-volume electronics production gives a real edge over generalist applicants competing for the same roles.
Which companies hire automations in Sunnyvale?

The local employer mix tilts heavily toward semiconductor fabs, defense contractors, and consumer electronics firms, many of which run multi-shift operations that require dedicated automation staff on-site year-round.
Are there remote automation jobs in Sunnyvale?
Yes, though only for certain specialties. Hands-on roles involving physical equipment, production lines, or lab systems are almost always on-site. About 0% of automation openings tied to Sunnyvale are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, mostly in software-defined test automation, controls engineering, and automation project management where the work is primarily code and documentation.
How can I get an automation job in Sunnyvale with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Sunnyvale is through contract-to-hire roles at electronics and semiconductor manufacturers, which regularly bring on junior technicians for repetitive test and inspection tasks before moving them into automation support positions. Community college programs through Mission College in Santa Clara feed directly into local employer pipelines. Starting as a manufacturing technician or test operator at a Sunnyvale-area fab is the fastest way to build hands-on automation credentials locally.
