Automation Project Manager Jobs in Arkansas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a automation project manager in Arkansas?
The most direct path is a bachelor's degree in engineering, industrial technology, or computer science followed by two to four years of hands-on automation or controls experience in a manufacturing or utilities environment. Arkansas does not require a state-issued license specifically for automation project managers, but earning a Project Management Professional credential through PMI strengthens candidacy significantly with Arkansas employers. Many candidates transition from roles as controls engineers or systems integrators at Arkansas industrial sites before moving into full project management.
How much do automation project managers make in Arkansas?
Automation project managers in Arkansas earn a median of about $77,170 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $47,620 for the lowest 10% to over $133,420 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire automation project managers in Arkansas?
Employers hiring automation project managers in Arkansas right now include Walmart, United States Steel, and L3Harris, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Arkansas's mix of food and beverage manufacturing, utilities, and regional distribution centers keeps a consistent pipeline of project management openings tied to automation upgrades and facility expansions.
Which Arkansas cities have the most automation project manager jobs?
Bentonville, Little Rock, and Rogers account for the most automation project manager openings in Arkansas. Little Rock draws the largest share because it anchors the state's corporate headquarters, utilities infrastructure, and government technology projects, while Fayetteville benefits from the dense cluster of consumer goods and retail supply chain operations tied to the Northwest Arkansas corridor, and Fort Smith's long-standing manufacturing base generates consistent demand for controls and automation project oversight.
Are there remote automation project manager jobs in Arkansas?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely desk-based fields because a meaningful portion of the role involves on-site coordination with engineers, vendors, and plant personnel. About 21% of automation project manager openings tied to Arkansas are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with most of those being hybrid arrangements rather than fully remote. The planning, documentation, and vendor management phases of the work are the most amenable to remote execution.
How can I get hired as a automation project manager in Arkansas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is starting as a controls engineer, manufacturing engineer, or systems technician at an Arkansas industrial facility and building a record of leading discrete automation projects before moving into a formal project management title. Large employers in the state's food processing and utilities sectors, including operations tied to Tyson Foods' Arkansas facilities and Arkansas Electric Cooperatives, periodically hire engineers into rotational or associate project roles. Earning an entry-level project management certification and documenting even small-scale automation implementations in a portfolio accelerates the transition.
Where can I find and apply to automation project manager jobs in Arkansas?
You can find and apply to automation project manager jobs in Arkansas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring in the state right now. Search the listings, identify the roles that match your background and target industry, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
