We're looking for a Business Development Manager to help expand our presence across the Mid-Atlantic by developing strategic relationships with clients, owners, architects, engineers, contractors, and industry partners. This is an opportunity to join a respected engineering and technical services organization that supports some of the region's most complex and high-profile projects, including healthcare, government, mission-critical, commercial, industrial, and data center facilities.
If you're energized by networking, solving client challenges, and helping organizations grow, we'd love to talk with you.

Responsibilities include:

- Identify and pursue new opportunities with owners, developers, architects, engineers, contractors, and facility managers.

- Track opportunities, maintain sales pipelines, and provide accurate forecasting using CRM tools.
- Stay informed on industry trends, competitive activity, and emerging markets.
- Collaborate with leadership to develop strategies for expanding into new markets and strengthening existing client partnerships.
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of business development, sales, or client relationship experience within the AEC industry.
- Proven success developing new business and growing strategic client relationships.
- Experience working with engineering firms, consulting firms, general contractors, construction managers, or design-build organizations.
- Strong understanding of the engineering, construction, and project delivery process.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while collaborating across multiple teams.
- Experience managing a sales pipeline and achieving growth objectives.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CRM platforms such as Salesforce, HubSpot, or Microsoft Dynamics.

- Existing relationships within the Mid-Atlantic AEC market.
- Experience selling engineering, consulting, commissioning, technical services, construction, or systems integration solutions.
- Active participation in industry organizations such as SMPS, IFMA, SAME, AIA, BOMA, CoreNet, or ABC.
- Familiarity with federal, healthcare, mission-critical, commercial, or industrial markets.
What You'll Love About This Opportunity
- Join an established and growing organization with an outstanding reputation in the engineering and construction industry.
- Work alongside experienced technical professionals on some of the region's most exciting and complex projects.
- Build long-term client relationships instead of transactional sales.
- Significant opportunity to influence company growth and market strategy.
- Collaborative leadership team that values initiative, creativity, and entrepreneurial thinking.
- Flexible work environment with autonomy to manage your territory and client relationships.

Business Development Jobs in Fairfax: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a business development job in Fairfax?
Fairfax's job market is heavily shaped by federal contracting, so candidates who understand the government procurement cycle, have experience with proposal development, or hold active security clearances stand out immediately. Defense IT, cybersecurity, and professional services firms concentrated along the Merrifield corridor and near Fairfax City hire the most consistently. Familiarity with IDIQ vehicles, GSA schedules, or agency-specific acquisition processes gives applicants a meaningful edge here over generalist business development backgrounds.
Which companies hire business developments in Fairfax?
Employers hiring business developments in Fairfax right now include PEG, ICBD, and NiyamIT, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Fairfax draws a dense mix of mid-size federal contractors, defense primes, and technology services firms, many of which maintain regional headquarters or major operations here given the city's proximity to key federal agencies.
Are there remote business development jobs in Fairfax?
Yes, though availability depends heavily on the role: client-facing and capture-focused positions in federal contracting tend to require in-person presence, while marketing coordination and inside sales functions are more remote-compatible. About 24% of business development openings tied to Fairfax are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, which is common for roles centered on pipeline management and market research rather than on-site client engagement.
How can I get a business development job in Fairfax with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Fairfax is through business development coordinator or proposal coordinator roles at mid-size federal contractors, which regularly hire recent graduates and career changers. Firms near Merrifield and along Route 50 often bring on entry-level staff to support capture teams, manage CRM data, and assist with RFP responses. A working knowledge of federal procurement terminology and a willingness to learn proposal writing processes gives Fairfax candidates a concrete edge over applicants with only private-sector sales backgrounds.
Which industries hire the most business developments in Fairfax?
Most business development openings in Fairfax sit in Technology & Software, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Fairfax's proximity to federal agencies in Northern Virginia makes it a natural hub for contractors and technology services firms that depend on government contract growth to drive revenue, which keeps demand for experienced business development professionals consistently high.
