Sales Agent Jobs in Virginia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a sales agent in Virginia?
The path depends on the sales specialty. For insurance sales, you must pass the Virginia state licensing exam administered through the Virginia Bureau of Insurance and hold an active Virginia insurance producer license before selling policies. For real estate sales, the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation oversees licensing, which requires coursework and a state exam. For technology, SaaS, or general B2B sales roles, no state license applies and employers typically require a bachelor's degree and a demonstrable sales background.
Which companies hire sales agents in Virginia?
Virginia sales agent roles are posted by Garrett Realty Partners, THE BRYANT GROUP REAL ESTATE PROFESSIONALS, and Vacatia and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Northern Virginia's concentration of technology firms and federal contractors makes it a particularly deep market for B2B and enterprise sales roles year-round.
Which Virginia cities have the most sales agent jobs?
Richmond, Norfolk, and Virginia Beach lead Virginia for sales agent openings. Northern Virginia's density of technology companies, defense contractors, and corporate headquarters drives the volume there, while Richmond's financial services and insurance sector anchors its market, and Virginia Beach's mix of retail, healthcare, and military-adjacent businesses sustains consistent demand in Hampton Roads.
Are there remote sales agent jobs in Virginia?
Yes, and more than many fields, because inside sales and account management work is well suited to remote and hybrid arrangements. About 40% of sales agent openings tied to Virginia are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how broadly employers have accepted distributed sales teams. Inside sales, SaaS renewals, and business development representative roles are the most likely to be fully remote, while territory field sales positions almost always require in-person client visits.
How can I get hired as a sales agent in Virginia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is a sales development representative or business development representative role, which large Virginia employers like Leidos, SAIC, and Geico use specifically to develop candidates without a full sales background. Completing a Virginia insurance producer license through the Virginia Bureau of Insurance signals commitment and opens insurance carrier roles immediately. Retail or customer service experience at employers like CarMax translates directly to inside sales positions. A short portfolio of cold outreach or lead generation work, even from volunteer or freelance projects, strengthens any application.
Where can I find and apply to sales agent jobs in Virginia?
You can find and apply to sales agent jobs in Virginia on Migrate Mate, which lists current Virginia openings across insurance, technology, real estate, and other sectors. Search the listings, identify the roles that fit your background and location, and apply directly to the ones that match.
