Sales Agent Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a sales agent in New York?
The path depends on the specialization. Insurance sales agents must pass a state licensing exam through the New York Department of Financial Services and register before selling any policy. Real estate sales agents must complete a New York State-approved pre-licensing course and pass the New York Real Estate Salesperson exam administered by the Department of State. For general B2B or retail sales roles, no state license is required, and most employers hire candidates with a bachelor's degree and some customer-facing experience.
Which companies hire sales agents in New York?
Employers hiring sales agents in New York right now include State Farm, TikTok, and Uber, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's deep concentration of financial services, media, and technology firms means sales agent openings here tend to skew toward high-value B2B accounts and financial products compared to other states.
Which New York cities have the most sales agent jobs?
New York, Ronkonkoma, and Albany have the most sales agent openings in New York. New York City dominates because its density of financial services, insurance carriers, and media companies creates constant demand, while Buffalo and Albany generate steady openings through regional offices of national insurers and healthcare organizations serving upstate markets.
Are there remote sales agent jobs in New York?
Yes, and more than many fields, particularly for inside sales and software sales roles where client relationships are managed by phone and video. About 13% of sales agent openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how much of New York's sales market has shifted to inside-sales models. Field sales, real estate, and insurance roles that require in-person client meetings or site visits remain primarily on-site.
How can I get hired as a sales agent in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is an insurance sales associate or junior account representative role, which large New York employers like New York Life and MetLife regularly fill through structured new-agent training programs that cover both product knowledge and licensing preparation. Real estate firms across New York City and Long Island also bring on unlicensed candidates and support them through the New York salesperson exam. Adjacent roles like customer service representative, inside sales coordinator, or retail banking associate at regional banks are common stepping stones that New York hiring managers recognize as strong preparation.
Where can I find and apply to sales agent jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to sales agent jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring in the state right now. Search the listings, find roles that match your experience and preferred location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
