Sales Consultant Jobs in Virginia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a sales consultant in Virginia?
Most sales consultant roles in Virginia require a bachelor's degree in business, marketing, finance, or a related discipline, though many employers accept equivalent experience. Virginia does not mandate a general sales consultant license, but real estate sales consultants must hold an active Virginia Real Estate License issued by the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation. For financial products sales, FINRA Series 6 or Series 7 registration is commonly required by Virginia employers.
Which companies hire sales consultants in Virginia?
Employers hiring sales consultants in Virginia right now include CarMax, The Good Feet Store, and Wells Fargo, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Virginia's concentration of federal contractors, financial institutions, and technology firms means demand runs across both commercial and government-facing sales roles throughout the state.
Which Virginia cities have the most sales consultant jobs?
Richmond, Virginia Beach, and Charlottesville account for the largest share of sales consultant openings in Virginia. Northern Virginia's density of technology firms and federal contractors drives the heaviest volume, while Richmond's financial services sector and Virginia Beach's growing commercial market contribute strong secondary demand that makes mid-size and suburban areas viable options beyond the primary metro.
Are there remote sales consultant jobs in Virginia?
Yes, and more than many field-based roles. About 35% of sales consultant openings tied to Virginia are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the consultative and relationship-driven nature of the work. Inside sales, SaaS account management, and financial advisory roles are the segments most likely to offer fully remote arrangements, while territory field sales roles typically remain on-site or hybrid.
How can I get hired as a sales consultant in Virginia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a sales development representative or business development representative role, which large Virginia employers in technology and financial services use to onboard and train candidates new to sales. Companies like Capital One and Booz Allen Hamilton run structured associate and rotational programs in Virginia designed for recent graduates. Earning a FINRA Series 6 or completing a real estate pre-licensing course through an approved Virginia provider also gives candidates a concrete credential that moves applications forward.
Where can I find and apply to sales consultant jobs in Virginia?
