Richmond's employer mix leans heavily toward regional health systems, mid-market financial services firms, defense contractors, and technology companies with East Coast operations.
Are there remote business development manager jobs in Richmond?
Yes, though selectively, since business development work often requires in-person relationship building, client entertainment, and territory coverage. About 81% of business development manager openings tied to Richmond are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, with the most flexibility found in SaaS sales and technology-adjacent roles. Client-facing and government contracting positions in Richmond tend to require a local presence.
How can I get a business development manager job in Richmond with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Richmond is through a business development representative or account executive role at one of the city's technology companies, staffing firms, or regional financial services companies, many of which promote from within. Richmond's healthcare sector also hires business development coordinators and outreach associates as stepping stones. Building relationships through local chambers of commerce and the Greater Richmond Partnership can accelerate a move into a manager-level role.
