Business Intelligence Analyst Jobs in Maryland: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a business intelligence analyst in Maryland?
Maryland does not require a state-issued license to work as a business intelligence analyst. Most Maryland employers expect a bachelor's degree in a quantitative or technical field, such as information systems, statistics, or computer science. Candidates who earn recognized certifications like Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst Associate or Tableau Desktop Specialist strengthen their applications. Federal contractors in the state may also require a security clearance, which you apply for through a sponsoring employer.
How much do business intelligence analysts make in Maryland?
Business intelligence analysts in Maryland earn a median of about $136,370 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $77,930 for the lowest 10% to over $213,270 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire business intelligence analysts in Maryland?
Employers hiring business intelligence analysts in Maryland right now include Johns Hopkins Health System, Akima, and Aprio, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Maryland's mix of federal contractors, large health insurers, and financial services firms creates steady, year-round demand for analysts who can work with complex, regulated datasets.
Which Maryland cities have the most business intelligence analyst jobs?
Bethesda, Baltimore, and Frederick have the most business intelligence analyst openings in Maryland. The Baltimore metro anchors demand through its concentration of healthcare systems, financial institutions, and universities, while the D.C.-adjacent suburbs of Bethesda, Rockville, and Columbia attract federal agencies and defense contractors that rely heavily on data and performance analytics teams.
Are there remote business intelligence analyst jobs in Maryland?
Yes, and more than most fields. Business intelligence analyst work is desk-based and data-driven, making it well suited to remote and hybrid arrangements. About 67% of business intelligence analyst openings tied to Maryland are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how broadly distributed employer datasets and cloud BI tools have made location less critical. Dashboard development, reporting, and self-service analytics work are the functions most frequently offered remotely.
How can I get hired as a business intelligence analyst in Maryland with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving laterally from a data-adjacent role such as a reporting analyst, junior data analyst, or database administrator position. Large Maryland health systems like Johns Hopkins Health System and University of Maryland Medical System hire analysts at the associate or entry level, often accepting candidates with strong academic portfolios, capstone projects, or internship experience in lieu of full work history. Building a portfolio of dashboards using public datasets and earning a foundational certification in Power BI or SQL signals readiness to Maryland hiring managers evaluating early-career candidates.
Where can I find and apply to business intelligence analyst jobs in Maryland?
