Learning And Development Manager Jobs in Maryland: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a learning and development manager in Maryland?
Maryland does not require a state-issued license to work as a learning and development manager. Most Maryland employers expect a bachelor's degree in human resources, organizational development, instructional design, or education, plus several years of hands-on training or curriculum experience. Moving into a manager role typically requires demonstrating program ownership and measurable outcomes. Earning an ATD Certified Professional in Talent Development credential or a SHRM certification strengthens candidacy at Maryland's large federal contractors and healthcare systems.
How much do learning and development managers make in Maryland?
Learning and development managers in Maryland earn a median of about $121,920 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $71,230 for the lowest 10% to over $203,690 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire learning and development managers in Maryland?
Maryland learning and development manager roles are posted by GEICO, ICE MILLER LLP, and Peake Federal Credit Union and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Maryland's concentration of federal contractors, major health systems, and financial services firms means consistent openings across both corporate and mission-driven organizations throughout the state.
Which Maryland cities have the most learning and development manager jobs?
Baltimore, Bethesda, and Perry Hall have the most learning and development manager openings in Maryland. Baltimore anchors the most volume thanks to its concentration of health systems and universities, while the Bethesda and Rockville corridor draws demand from federal contractors and corporate headquarters clustered in Montgomery County.
Are there remote learning and development manager jobs in Maryland?
Yes, and more than most management roles, because curriculum design, virtual facilitation, and LMS administration translate well to remote work. About 100% of learning and development manager openings tied to Maryland are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting the desk-based and digital nature of much of the work. Roles focused on in-person facilitation or onboarding at a single site remain predominantly on-site.
How can I get hired as a learning and development manager in Maryland with little or no experience?
The most realistic path is moving into an L&D coordinator or instructional designer role first, then building toward management. Large Maryland employers such as Johns Hopkins Health System and major federal contractors in the Baltimore-Washington corridor regularly hire instructional designers and training coordinators who grow into manager positions. Building a portfolio of completed eLearning modules or training programs and pursuing an ATD or SHRM credential signals readiness. Adjacent roles in HR generalist, organizational effectiveness, or academic advising also serve as common lateral entry points.
Where can I find and apply to learning and development manager jobs in Maryland?
You can find and apply to learning and development manager jobs in Maryland on Migrate Mate, which lists current Maryland openings. Search the roles that match your background and apply directly to the ones that fit your experience and target industry.
