Business Intelligence Developer Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a business intelligence developer in New York?
A bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field is the standard entry point for business intelligence developer roles in New York. No state-issued license is required, but employers in New York's financial and healthcare sectors frequently expect vendor certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Data Analyst Associate or Tableau Desktop Specialist. Building a portfolio of BI dashboards and data models strengthens applications considerably in New York's competitive market.
How much do business intelligence developers make in New York?
Business intelligence developers in New York earn a median of about $130,460 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $73,330 for the lowest 10% to over $214,080 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire business intelligence developers in New York?
Employers hiring business intelligence developers in New York right now include EY, Debevoise & Plimpton LLP, and Implify, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's deep concentration of financial institutions, large hospital systems, and media companies means demand for BI talent is consistent and rarely limited to a single industry.
Which New York cities have the most business intelligence developer jobs?
New York, Valhalla, and Woodbury have the most business intelligence developer openings in New York. New York City dominates because of its dense concentration of financial firms, insurers, healthcare networks, and media companies, while Albany draws openings from state government agencies and regulated industries, and Buffalo contributes through its growing healthcare and manufacturing sectors.
Are there remote business intelligence developer jobs in New York?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 50% of business intelligence developer openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the desk-based, analytical nature of the work. Dashboard development, report writing, and data modeling are the tasks most commonly performed fully remotely, while stakeholder workshops and cross-team data governance work more often require occasional in-office presence.
How can I get hired as a business intelligence developer in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a junior data analyst or reporting analyst role, which many large New York employers use as a feeder into full business intelligence developer positions. Institutions like NewYork-Presbyterian, Citibank, and state agencies regularly post associate-level analyst openings that require SQL proficiency and a degree but accept candidates without prior BI titles. Completing a vendor certification and publishing self-built Tableau or Power BI projects gives early-career candidates a concrete portfolio that offsets limited work history.
Where can I find and apply to business intelligence developer jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to business intelligence developer jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current New York openings updated regularly. Find the roles that fit your experience and specialization and apply directly through each listing.
