Business Intelligence Engineer Jobs in Missouri: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a business intelligence engineer in Missouri?
Business intelligence engineer is not a state-licensed role in Missouri, so there is no board exam or registration required. Most Missouri employers look for a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or data analytics, combined with demonstrated BI tool proficiency. Earning vendor certifications from Microsoft, Tableau, or AWS strengthens a candidacy. Many Kansas City and St. Louis employers treat a strong portfolio of dashboards and data models as equally compelling as a graduate degree.
How much do business intelligence engineers make in Missouri?
Business intelligence engineers in Missouri earn a median of about $97,090 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $58,960 for the lowest 10% to over $151,380 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire business intelligence engineers in Missouri?
Missouri business intelligence engineer roles are posted by Hillyard, Academy Bank, and Fike Corporation and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Missouri's concentration of healthcare systems, financial services firms, and logistics companies means steady demand for BI engineers who can work across complex enterprise datasets.
Which Missouri cities have the most business intelligence engineer jobs?
St. Louis, Kansas City, and Saint Louis account for the largest share of business intelligence engineer openings in Missouri. Kansas City leads because of its dense cluster of healthcare IT, insurance, and financial services headquarters, while St. Louis draws demand from healthcare giants, defense contractors, and regional logistics operations that rely on internal analytics teams.
Are there remote business intelligence engineer jobs in Missouri?
Yes, and more than most fields. Business intelligence engineering is desk-based and output-driven, making it well suited to remote and hybrid arrangements. About 67% of business intelligence engineer openings tied to Missouri are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how broadly Missouri employers have embraced flexible work for analytics roles. Dashboard development, ETL work, and reporting tasks are the functions most consistently offered remotely.
How can I get hired as a business intelligence engineer in Missouri with little or no experience?

Employers like Cerner (Oracle Health), Centene, and regional credit unions in Kansas City and St. Louis regularly onboard analysts without senior BI titles. Building a portfolio of Power BI or Tableau projects using public datasets, and earning an entry-level cloud certification, gives candidates a concrete edge when competing against applicants with similar degrees.
