Certified Pharmacy Technician Jobs in Montana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a certified pharmacy technician in Montana?
To work as a certified pharmacy technician in Montana, you must register with the Montana Board of Pharmacy, which requires a high school diploma or equivalent and a national certification such as the PTCB CPhT or NHA ExCPT. Most employers in Montana expect national certification before or shortly after hire. Many community colleges in Montana, including Flathead Valley Community College, offer pharmacy technician programs that prepare candidates for the national exam and registration.
Which companies hire certified pharmacy technicians in Montana?
Employers hiring certified pharmacy technicians in Montana right now include Walmart, Walgreens, and Pharm406, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Montana's mix of regional hospital systems, rural health networks, and retail pharmacy chains means openings are distributed across both urban centers and smaller communities throughout the state.
Which Montana cities have the most certified pharmacy technician jobs?
Billings, Helena, and Laurel have the most certified pharmacy technician openings in Montana. Billings leads because it is the state's largest city and home to major hospital campuses and retail pharmacy clusters, while Missoula and Great Falls generate consistent demand through their regional medical centers and the retail corridors that serve surrounding rural populations.
Are there remote certified pharmacy technician jobs in Montana?
Yes, but they're rare. About 0% of certified pharmacy technician openings tied to Montana are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting that the role is fundamentally hands-on and dispensing-focused. The portions of the work most likely to be performed remotely are prior authorization support, insurance verification, and telepharmacy coordination roles offered by some of Montana's larger health systems.
How can I get hired as a certified pharmacy technician in Montana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for a pharmacy technician trainee role at a retail pharmacy or hospital system willing to support your registration while you work. Billings Clinic and Providence Health in Missoula have both hired technicians at the trainee level and supported national certification. Candidates who come from related roles such as medical assistant, pharmacy clerk, or CNA have an easier transition. Completing a Montana community college pharmacy technician program and passing the PTCB exam before applying strengthens any entry-level application significantly.
