Chief Operating Officer Jobs in Kansas City: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a chief operating officer job in Kansas City?
Focus on Kansas City's dominant hiring sectors: healthcare systems, regional banks and insurance firms, logistics and supply chain companies, and mid-market technology businesses. Roles concentrate in the urban core, the Sprint Campus corridor in Overland Park, and established commercial districts like the Crossroads. Candidates who demonstrate multi-site operational leadership, P&L ownership, and experience scaling teams in the Midwest market stand out most with local hiring managers.
Which companies hire chief operating officers in Kansas City?
Employers hiring chief operating officers in Kansas City right now include Research Medical Center, CRB, and Abbott, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Kansas City's market skews toward regional healthcare networks, community and national banks, freight and distribution operators, and founder-led technology companies seeking their first operational executive.
Are there remote chief operating officer jobs in Kansas City?
Yes, though the role is inherently hands-on and most Kansas City employers expect significant on-site presence for a chief operating officer. About 50% of chief operating officer openings tied to Kansas City are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, with hybrid arrangements most common among SaaS and fintech companies headquartered downtown. Strategy, reporting, and board-facing work tends to be the portion most often performed remotely.
How can I get a chief operating officer job in Kansas City with little or no experience?
The most realistic path in Kansas City is moving through a director of operations or VP of operations role at one of the city's mid-size healthcare, logistics, or technology employers before stepping into the top operational seat. Companies like regional health systems, third-party logistics providers, and growth-stage firms in the Crossroads tech corridor regularly promote from within. Building visibility through Kansas City Chamber of Commerce events and Helzberg Entrepreneurs Mentoring Program connections accelerates that progression considerably.
Which industries hire the most chief operating officers in Kansas City?
Kansas City chief operating officer roles concentrate in Investment & Asset Management, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Kansas City's position as a national freight hub, combined with its large healthcare and financial services employer base, makes operational leadership talent consistently in demand across all three sectors.
